Max is a good guy. His game is trending back but it is so easy to lose it out there.
Thanks for posting that video. I have been playing golf for 65 of my 73 years. I still score very well from the senior tees and hit it nice (just a few more loose shots per 18 holes with brain cramps). I had posted score handicaps of scratch or +1 several times in my younger days. But to shoot 68 and 68 when your job is dentist and at a probably tough course from the tips is great.
Not to demean anything said here but at a “competitive level” very good golfers are a dime a dozen. To be ”TV good” takes a special breed of cat. The secret to becoming “TV good” I think is the ability to get out of your own way. Except for a couple of times in my life, I have never been able to do that…and I have only played with maybe 2 or 3 players that had that ability. Now at my age, I might have a couple of holes per year, where I can say I am “in the zone”…It is a strange and wonderful game though. Thanks for posting that video. And the pros a just so much better than a scratch or +1 handicap golfer. They are insanely good on very tough courses where the green speeds are dialed up.

What I find amazing about the “TV good” guys is how dialed in they are with their yardages, While they can’t execute it every time they truly know the difference between hitting a PW 138 vs 142. Also the short game, So many times they make getting up and down look so damn easy when it’s not, Judging bumping a 30 yard shot into a bank etc.
I saw this on “YouTube” last year and I was really impressed at the whole thing…..I also remember a few years ago Steve Stricker announced he was going to “cut down” on his practice time (ball hitting)…when asked why he replied, “I can go out and hit 100 7 irons during a practice session and hit 98 of them perfect….but I find myself going home and worrying about the 2 balls I didn’t hit well…….Life is too short!”
It will be a “fair test” next week……”fair” only because everyone has to play the same golf course!
I think that those USGA folks who set the courses up almost have spouse abuse or child abuse records in their past. Diabolical!
The rough there is a sumbitch!Putting the ball in play off the tee is always vital, Multiple by about 10 next week.
The rough there is a sumbitch!
A college buddy of mine worked there for 2-4 years as an assistant (40 years ago)…he thought seriously about becoming a used car salesman!
Golf Channel did a spot on “the rough” a couple of weeks ago….6” deep immediately off the fairway… and the golf ball “sinks” into the grass…I knew it would be long but watching Bryson’s video and I was like Damn!

No fun!
And folks here will be making fun of the guys who can’t break 77 that weekend!Yeah and today the rough around the greens was deep, Thick and gnarly as well. If the wind blows look out.

I alluded to it several days ago, but I’ve been poking around with info from datagolf.com. Looking at the various Strokes Gained statistics and how they translated to success at the 2016 U.S. Open. I have only focused on the top 30 finishers so far, but SG Around the Green was the worst indicator of success in that tournament. What that tells me is that the rough is so penal, there is no such thing as a good scrambler there. My one main complaint is that they say they want to test every club in your bag, The rough around the greens virtually removes all skill from the short game, Hack and Hope. Guys that make a living scrambling are going to have fun.

Oakmont is one of my favorites, and I am irrationally excited for this tournament.I'm looking forward to this tournament almost as much as I do the Masters. I love watching pro's struggle on a hard course. We can watch them shoot -20 any other week, lets see them struggle.
This is where I am:
Jack Nicklaus once said…” most golf tournaments are lost, not won.”That Fox second shot was useful. Can he make the putt?
A 3-putt par for Burns. Brutal.
I heard Immelman say that…my bride told me, “The other guy is gonna win.”Best putter on tour too.
I know DeChambeau & John Daly both recommend most people use jumbo grips on all 14 clubs.Just wanted to give you guys some feedback on a little experiment I have been trying this year, I have been trying a couple different JumboMax grips on 2 different clubs, The small, 1/4 over on my STZ 230 driver and the medium +5/16 on my mini driver. I actually like them. I think the biggest benefit has been helping to eliminate left misses off the tee which has been my lifelong nemesis. It also really helps to lighten grip pressure. No noticeable difference in distance.
I have read up quite a bit on trying them on wedges and how they help to take some wrist rotation out of shorter pitch shots and chip shots so I have a 60 that I don’t currently use that I think I will try the Jumbo small on.
Any of you tried them out and if so what are your thoughts.

Golf fans won’t keep paying $$ to see golf tournies decided by bogies and double bogies.I thought this was kind of an interesting read. And it has a ton of truth to it.

The USGA sold the wrong kind of golf at the U.S. Women's Open
Rather than showcase the game at its best, the golf at Erin Hills was hard, slow, and not very fun.www.golfdigest.com
I keep seeing this question asked, and I think they are right; however, if we had ball spotters and large galleries to stop our balls from going further offline, that would help scores quite a bit.

Same. I'd be like Speith a couple of weeks ago, almost decapitating a spectator. The only difference is that I wouldn't save par. There would also be a couple concussions when I skulled multiple iron shots into the crowd …
