***Official Overreaction Thread- (Loss Edition)***

No meltdown here. This team looked like an ncaa bubble team with healthy CMAC and Murray. We probably can be a 0.500 B1G team with those guys healthy and if we miss NCAA tourney because of this loss, we just miss a groin kick to exit in 1st round or 2nd round.

Next year might be ugly.
Not if we hit the portal and snag a 5-star guy out from under Bama. Wait. Nevermind.

Aaaaaannnnddd it's time for Fran to go.
Anyone overreacting to this game has different expectations than most of us.

Bad losses happen (although there is no excuse for giving up 92 points), but the bottom line is the Iowa program reached its ceiling with Fran a long time ago.

Look, Fran is a good coach and brings an exciting brand of basketball to watch, but he is Dr. Tom at best. After 13 seasons, I’ve been ready to move on. If Fran can actually make some noise in the portal this offseason, then I’ll take a wait and see approach. Otherwise, yawn.

Not upgrading via the portal when JO entered is showing to be a mistake. The Hawks have two bigs on this team that don't contribute. Potentially bringing in two guys that could play defense/rebound over the likes of JO ond RM who are only taking up space sure could have helped today.

22-23 Hawkeyes, you officially stink. Zero optimism for this season. Whoever came down from Section NN and yelled at you for your lack of defense likely is a better coach than you currently have.

We now take you live to a Gary Barta press conference...

the guy squandered 2 all americans by playing bad combinations. he had the lottery pick twins and insisted that his boys deserved more minutes. the amount of fran forgiveness is baffling

C'mon, haven't you all gotten the memo. For Iowa there is no such thing as an inexcusable loss in ANY sport. Iowa Basketball could be 15-0 and ranked #1 in the nation and lose a basketball game to Southwest Missouri State's field hockey team, and there would still be some on here saying, "Well, their team has scholarship athletes too" and "it's just one loss."

How dare any of you apply any standard of excellence or impose expectations of maximum effort on a Big Ten program against one of the true schlubs of college basketball...at home, favored by 30+! After all, we had two whole entire players out injured. You simply can't expect us to compete with the likes of mighty Eastern Illinois under those trying circumstances.

Since this is an over reaction thread, I’ll give one:

Fran should be fired tonight and have to repay this years salary, all players should have their schollies taken away before second semester, sell Carver and everything in it, eliminate both bb programs, then use all the money saved to buy fb players.

Big time over reaction you get a 10 on scale of 1-10 nice work

It is really interesting. Fran plays an exciting brand of ball, and he gives his players plenty of freedom, (maybe too much). His teams though rarely play defense for most of the season. Meanwhile KF plays boring ball, is a micro manager, supposedly, and they will defend you to the death. Both have been pretty successful, (given Iowa's recruiting adversities). Both have been at Iowa longer then any other coach. What to do?

Fran is not a good coach. Good coaches don’t have bubble teams that lose to bottom 10 teams. Good coaches make at least 1 sweet 16 in a long career of coaching. Good coaches know that defense is important. Fran hit hold with legacy recruits and lifelong Iowa fans, and should get credit for recruiting a guy or two who worked hard to get better. But overall, he’s a below average P5 coach. He’s not as shitty as his predecessor, so he gets a ton of grace. But he’s just not that good.

My over reaction-

I am now convinced Iowa should have never relieved Todd Lickliter of his coaching duties. He is a better coach than Fran M.
