***Official Overreaction Thread- (Loss Edition)***

The basketball program needs life injected into it. Making a change after next year would be good timing. Pmac graduates and could play his Covid year somewhere else, and Jack can find somewhere else to play. Change in basketball coaches is not always a bad thing, in fact, in can turn out great. See ISU as a case study.

Careful.....there is a certain group of posters on this board that are convinced there is a 100% chance a new coach would be worse. They fear any change.

There's always gonna be different factors that go into the timing of choosing to move on from a head coach. See Nebraska for an example of how not to handle your "pursuit of excellence by bringing in the next Nick Saban or John Wooden".....................................just sayin.

Following this season would be a perfect time to let Fran go.

The same cannot be said for the football program, although in their situation, hands may be forced if Kirk remains a stubborn ass, since it's pretty much a guarantee that Brian is returning.

I imagine Fran gets pressure not to spend on portal. (just a guess) Do we think a different coach could do differently here?

Pressure not to spend on portal?

There are no other coaches that could do the same or better than Fran? is that the question?

No meltdown here. This team looked like an ncaa bubble team with healthy CMAC and Murray. We probably can be a 0.500 B1G team with those guys healthy and if we miss NCAA tourney because of this loss, we just miss a groin kick to exit in 1st round or 2nd round.

Next year might be ugly.
Sad commentary when the loss of Conner M. is blamed for a loss to Eastern Michigan. Conner M. for God sakes.

I'm trying to find a silver lining to this historic setback for Iowa's BB program. Its difficult. The only thing I could come up with is what a pleasure it will be when Iowa defeats other B10 teams this season and we can read reactions such as "we lost to a team that lost at home to Eastern Focking Illinois" or something similar. Spread the misery.

Rest of the B1G sees Iowa under Fran as little bit better than Mediocre which is what you are if you are only a litte bit over 0.500 in B1G play over 12 year career and little NCAA tourney success other than a participation award.

Then you have this group of Fran posters that that insist Fran's next coaching mistake will be his 1st and that Fran has given Iowa fans the golden age of Iowa basketball. Ralph MIller, Lute Olson final-4, and even Davis making an Elite8, that was the golden age.

Fran is not on hot seat, and won't be next year either, even if Iowa stinks---which looks like good probability with Kris likely gone. Fran is not going anywhere, but the narrative that Iowa returns to Lickliter level as soon as Fran leaves is silly. Barta incompetence and his fat cat coaches Ferentz and McCaffery blowing their handling of the Portal and NIL is what is going to sink Iowa football and basketball to below mediocrity.

Since this is an over reaction thread, I’ll give one:

Fran should be fired tonight and have to repay this years salary, all players should have their schollies taken away before second semester, sell Carver and everything in it, eliminate both bb programs, then use all the money saved to buy fb players.
DONOT eliminate womens program!!

She can't compete with the worst guy on the bench. You watch too much Hollywood crapola. She is a woman and a very good woman player. Leave it at that.
That was a joke 😜
You’re overreacting to my over reaction

It's a really, REALLY, bad loss.

BUT

In the context of Iowa basketball as a program at present it's also kind of "meh". Iowa is a mediocre B1G team. They were a borderline bubble team before this loss. They remain a borderline bubble team, now with more work to do in conference to get rid of this sh!t stain.

Zero impact on Fran's continuation as coach. He was a mediocre B1G coach with poor NCAA tourney performance and he remains the same after.
When there is no longer an incompetent AD running the department I might have different expectations.

It’s time. Fran had a legitimate top ten team two years ago and he f#cked that up so his 6’5 son could start at the 4 over a future lottery pick.

Iowa reached its ceiling with Fran a long time ago. Fans aren’t showing up and apathy is growing. There’s no reason not to make a change after this year.

True, does Iowa want to have a good basketball program or just content with the current level?

Would miss out on the next of Fran's sons. Seems risky

Yep, Keegan two seasons ago and Kris last season.

Players do seem to develop though, Rebraca is clearly better

Well, stuff happens. Reminds me of a game my senior year in high school.

We were pretty good and only lost one regular season game that year. We usually won by 20 or more. The team that beat us only won one game in the conference. They were pretty bad.

We were leading 60-36 near the end of the 3rd quarter so coach pulled all the starters and let the scrubs finish it. We lost 62-60. We were begging coach to put us back in but he just sat there stonefaced with his arms folded and glared.

I thought that was an overreaction.
