Just looking at the benefits of being a football coach at Ohio State. Last five coaches will have been inducted into Coach's Hall of Fame (not counting the Fickel interim year). Woody, Earle Bruce, John Cooper, Jim Tressel, and Urban Meyer. This position almost guarantees a coach a ton of wins, a chance for a possible Natty every year, and your name in the Hall of Fame. If Ryan Day wins on Monday, he'll be next.

When thinking about Kirk toiling with Iowa for 25+ years, I have to think he is deserving for his longevity and the fact he's never had the advantages of the blue bloods. He's put in his time trying to keep a program at a high level and making them competitive year after year. I'm sure he could have jumped to a better program but stayed at Iowa. While I'm not always pleased with his coaching style, or some missteps with hirings, I appreciate his long-term work at Iowa. A couple of those coaches were fortunate to get the OSU head job and probably aren't really as deserving as KF. KF may not get in, but everyone needs to look at the big picture, whether you like KF or not.

Prior to the addition of Oregon and USC, the B1G rarely has another school in the conference that is a legitimate national title contender other than Ohio State. Historically, maybe once every 8-10 years Michigan or Penn State had a team capable of competing for a title.

Yea, Michigan goes on up and severe down swings and PSU - while very good every year - just doesn't have quite enough to get over the hump. Like you said, OSU is the one consistent program year in and year out.

Proof? OSU has only had 2 losing seasons since the early 1960s and one of them was the Tressel scandal year of 2011 when they lost many of their stars and went 6-7

Michigan does not go on severe down swings.

Other than the Covid year, they have had 3 losing seasons since 1967. Two of those being 5-7.

Really? BS. Under Brady Hoke and Rich Rodriguez, they were 3-9, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 and 5-7 overall and 2-6, 1-7, 3-5, 3-5 and 3-5 in the Big Ten. What do you call a down swing for a major power ?
I agree...that was a bad string of seasons.

The only reason Cooper got in was he won the Rose Bowl with 2 different teams. I believe he is the only coach to do so. I'm not sure his record at OSU., 111-43-4, would have been enough, especially considering his 2-10-1 record against TTUN.

If you had said Michigan has had one down swing in the last 60 years, I would have agreed with you.

You said “Michigan goes on severe down swings.” One five year stretch of mediocrity over a sixty year span is a whole hell of a long was from “Michigan goes on severe down swings.”

Illinois goes on severe down swings. Michigan had a blip.

If Michigan goes on severe down swings, then literally every program in the United States other than OSU “goes on severe down swings.”

HOF's that have a minimum threshold miss the point. Who is more deserving of the HOF - KF or Urban Meyer?

If you're going to have a HOF it shouldn't be only about W's.
Ummm... I'll take this one.

If we're going strictly upon achievement, and really what else is there, Urban Meyer. AINEC

Yeah.

I think Ferentz is a great/under appreciated coach, but Urban didn’t just win at OSU. Dude was winning at Bowling Green and Utah before he was winning national titles at Florida and OSU.

He may be a sack of shit, but he is on the short list of all-time great college coaches.

Meyer ranks 3rd all-time on the Major/FBS coaches list by win percentage at .854, below two guys named Rockne and Leahy..

"Sack of shit" should mean something when considering HOF inductees.

No, it should not. Unless it’s in reference to a guy cheating at football, or maybe committing a felony, but I am unaware of that happening, or at least being proven.

He deserves every bit of consequence in his personal life for being a sack of shit. We’ll probably have to clear out half of the hall if we’re going to award based on someone having questionable character.

Meyer - as a human - was a POS BUT one of the top 2 coaches (along with Saban) of our era and both were just elected to the CF HOF - deservedly so.

His weekly analysis on Fox every Saturday is excellent. The guy knows what he's talking about and is very informative.

Penn State's downfall was their slow integration into the B10.

Well, that and Joe Pa hanging around for too long, which was a precursor to Kirk.................
