Former president Donald Trump is flying to Ohio to aide fledging Senate hopeful J.D. Vance in his race against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, but there may have been a bit of a miscalculation.
The Trump-Vance rally in Youngstown, Ohio, is scheduled for the same time the Ohio State University and Toledo football game kicks off a mere 2½ hours away in Columbus.
Per Trump’s team, the former president will join Vance onstage at 7 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 17 — the same time as kickoff. Other Ohio candidates whom Trump has endorsed also will join the rally.
Both Vance and Ryan are trying to claim the mantle of populist ally of the working-class voter. And it should be noted that Trump once owned a professional football franchise, which makes this scheduling hiccup even more of a head scratcher.
After Trump announced the rally, Ryan hopped on Twitter to taunt Vance on their scheduling.
“Dude just doesn’t get it,” Ryan tweeted, sharing screenshots of both events’ start times.
