Okie State v Central Michigan What would Solomon do?

I can't help but wonder if the roles were reversed... if Ok St had been the one to score on the last play of the game... I can't help but wonder if any of us would even know about that obscure rule.

I am sure it would of come up and people would be upset no matter how you shake it. The fact is, those 8 guys really got the attention of the rest of the officials in college and high school I am sure. I bet a lot people who officiate are going back looking through their rule books just to make sure they don't make a mistake such as that one.

Once again tough break.

I think Solomon would do what any God-fearing king would do - laugh his ass off at Okie State, then go slice something in half with his sword.

I dunno, ask Solomon.

I would reverse it. Since it's at the end of the game, you can actually say, "If we change this call here, x is the certain outcome of the game." If you can vacate a win, you can vacate a play.

Although I don't have much sympathy for OkSU. No reason to throw.

That rule should be clarified, anyway.

If, for instance, a team has been backed up on its own 10 yard line with a 1 pt lead, and needs to run out the clock to win, but a blitz by the defense forces a grounding penalty on 4th down with the clock expiring, there SHOULD be an untimed down for the team that forced the penalty. That penalty includes loss of down, and without the clock running out the ball would automatically go over to the defense.

OkSt should have done a better job running out the clock if they wanted to win the game. Wrong call? Maybe, but it's a loophole that should be fixed so that teams cannot just run out the clock while incurring a penalty to keep a lead and get a win.

Just keep running backwards until you see zeroes on the clock, and then go to the ground before you hit the end zone (or keep running and take a safety with time expiring if you have a >2 pt lead). Game over.
