Any thoughts? I'm a yes. Free money, good to show recruits we'll go anywhere, etc. Not sure what the coaches think, though.

Edit: I'm changing the way I phrased this thought. I'm not sure what the coaches think about elevating a true rivals event.

As much as they care about the dual season(especially meets at Carver), they have made it pretty clear they don’t care for National Duals and Carl has been even more vocal against it.

I could see them going if they can basically pick who they wrestle. Otherwise, I would be pretty surprised if they endorse it right away without solid incentives….

And just as I posted this I see the incentives. So, yeah, they probably go!

This isn’t a face Matscouts/Flo “pre chosen opponent” event. This is a tourney more like the old national dials.

Not that he had all the details when he was asked, but Tom responded favorably to the idea when it first came out. But a lot can change.

I think Iowa goes. In addition to the reasons stated, no way does PSU go and the more isolated and alienated the rest of the wrestling world makes PSU, the better. It also likely helps OKST keep sending guys to the Salute. It’s good for Iowa if the momentum continues there.

I like the idea of Nat Duals, to an extent. Hard for me to get too excited about the thought of Iowa possibly wrestling up to 4 more duals against B1G teams. Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching and want Iowa there. But would prefer that they tweak the brackets so that no two teams from the same conference would hit until semis/placement rounds. Do that, and I'm fully on board.

I enjoy the Collegiate Duals set up. Get some matchups that we don't normally see throughout the season.

Would really, really, really love to see a weekend of B1G 10 vs B1G 12 inter conference duals. Make each a single day event at 2 locations, but have on different days(one Sat, one Sun) so they don't take away views from the other. One on a B1G 10 campus, one on a B1G 12 campus. Make it an annual event and rotate the host schools. 7 teams from each conference competing, each school has 2 duals with "similarly" ranked opponents. If they ran 3 mats, that would be 5 rounds of duals.

Should be fun. I'm watching with or without Iowa. Is this going to be Flo or will we need something else?

Good ideas, Jrod. Timing would be key. November is pretty early, but PSU might consider it if held over the December holiday period (my best guess).

Cancel the annual Okie State dual at the end and just use this, maybe?
And dump the ISU dual since they will be there too……………on second thought, perhaps the teams that tie for 27th won’t wont be invited.

Only if Iowa first gets Oklahoma on the schedule for a dual meet.

Then you got yourself a deal. :)

Why not go? It's like a pre season tournament. My recollection of the of the old Nation Duals format when it was held in Lincoln for a number of years was it was in late January and in the middle of the season. Doubt Ben would be ready by then but hopefully so,

I believe:

1) too early in season and load management/recovery (given many elite are active with international freestyle - including their coaches);

2) peaking for NCAAs;

3) no benefit facing the same wrestle rmaybe 4 times in a season (doesn't add to one's quality wins count - exhibit A Hendrickson vs Carter); and,

4) not hard up for the cash

are all good reasons that I've heard mentioned.

But maybe not all apply to all schools.

5) NIL has created lots of animosity between the top teams and the best teams aren't going to be working together on anything

It is also going to spread the Iowa hate a little more evenly going forward so maybe that is a plus?!?
