Oligarchy

Not at this level. This is an open and transparent buying of the nation. Next four years won't be about reducing egg prices. It will be about making sure billionaires permanently control everything.

With all due respect I think it has happened at a pretty high level throughout history Huey, but it is certainly more publicized in this day and age. I don't think much has really changed over time.

You're mistaken.

Get refreshed about the guilded age, the economic reforms that were implemented and it's impact on the middle class for the next 80 years.

Any idiot that thinks this is new deserves to be laughed at. Or that Bernie is some Demi god that knows all. Also deserves to be laughed at.

Musk now has an office in the White House. This is definitely a level we've never seen before. It couldn't be more clear Trump's second term will be all about giving everything to the rich.

I was looking WAY farther back than that Jerome. But the Guilded Age is certain a great example of what is being talked about.

As to oligarchy, we do have a problem on both sides that is much worse than the Bernie Joe business oligarchy (which, BTW, both sides have as well). It’s the hereditary oligarchy. Remind me what career beau embarked on before his demise? Remind me what dons sister does and his kids?

If I were holding the aardvark constitutional convention, I’d make an amendment to the effect that the children of any elected constitutional federal officer would be ineligible for federal employment or to hold federal office for ten years post end of term

Yeah, this is essentially unprecedented. You could argue the early industrialist robber barons were close….but even they didn’t control the federal government like this.

Give it time they will see it’s going to a new level. The transfer power and wealth will be legendary this term. Republicans will never admit it. The misinformation relentless. Working people will feel the pain. Putin’s system of government is genius. We should get along better.

If nothing else, while we’ve obviously had the uber-rich class before, we’ve never seen the gap between that class and the working class Americans that we do now.

I can absolutely understand why average Joe American is angry, and feels like the Democratic Party doesn’t care…what I dont understand is why they then turned to Trump and just believe he will fight for them, with zero evidence to support that.

Uber-rich meaning top 1%? I suppose there are a LOT of ways to look at it. It is frustrating to be sure.

According to available data, in 1920, the wealthiest 1% of Americans owned approximately 33% to 35% of the country's wealth, highlighting a significant concentration of wealth among the richest individuals during this period.

According to recent data, the top 1% of Americans currently own around 27% of the total wealth in 2024 in the United States, meaning the "richest Americans" hold a significant portion of the nation's wealth.

I think it’s worse than that.

Federal Reserve data indicates that as of Q4 2021, the top 1% of households in the United States held 30.9% of the country's wealth, while the bottom 50% held 2.6%.[7] From 1989 to 2019, wealth became increasingly concentrated in the top 1% and top 10% due in large part to corporate stock ownership concentration in those segments of the population; the bottom 50% own little if any corporate stock.[8]From an international perspective, the difference in the US median and mean wealth per adult is over 600%.[9] A 2011 study found that US citizens across the political spectrum dramatically underestimate the current level of wealth inequalityin the US, and would prefer a far more egalitarian distribution of wealth.[10]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the wealth held by billionaires in the U.S. increased by 70%,[11] with 2020 marking the steepest increase in billionaires' share of wealth on record.[12]

The working man thinking democrats don't care and Republicans do is a huge reason why we are where we are. We are just about Russia. Kruschev was right...didn't have to fire a missile. Our ignorant residents just handed the nation over willingly to the top 1%.

Not to mention the “fall in line or Elon will bank roll your primary opponent”. Unbelievable the people who are ok with that shit.

There is a big difference between giving someone a medal and giving someone a cabinet position because of how much money they have or have donated.
True enough, but the point is Biden gladly accepted campaign donations from the very people he is trying to ostracize. Lets just say the shoe fits all feet when it comes to politicians.

This is one of those don’t hate the player, hate the game situations.

Because of citizens united, money is paramount when it comes to winning elections.

Really good info. Thanks for sharing that. Always appreciate your posts.

Basically, some historians note that the American revolution was to get us out from under the shackles of King George and England and by 1880, just 100 years, the Guilded Age came to the fore with the Robber Barons and extremely rich who turned the workers into serfs. Now we have the really rich since Reagan who have taken over the govt by telling politicians how to craft legislation to cut their taxes and let them monopolize industries to make huge wealth.

No, it hasn't even come close to this. This is how it happens. Folks start making excuses and get complacent. Trump is about to destroy the country.

It should. 100 years ago it was hard to communicate and I'm guessing most people had little idea how things worked or who was pulling strings. Now, it's far easier to see this happening and yet we allow it to continue. Those benefitting from this aren't going to stop on their own... they are going to have to be made to stop.
