It was another busy week for Iowa sports. Hawkeye Swimming and Diving took part in the NCAA Championships, where Makayla Hughbanks qualified for the finals in the 1-meter dive, ultimately finishing 14th with a score of 542.55. Iowa Track and Field was also competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships and had 4 different athletes earn All-American status. Myreanna Bebe earned 2nd-team All-American honors in the 60m hurdles, tying her own school record, James Carter Jr. earned 2nd-team All-American honors in both the long jump (7.80m) and triple jump (15.55m), Austin West earned 2nd-team All-American honors in the heptathlon and Peyton Haack staged a huge comeback on the last day of competition, including a school-record pole vault, to earn 1st-team All-American honors.
Elsewhere, Hawkeye Gymnastics hung tough with a top-25 Southern Utah team, winning all four event titles and posting a 196.425. Adeline Kenlin won the beam title, scoring a 9.950, JerQuavia Henderson won the floor title with a 9.975 (her 7th career floor title), Gianna Masella and Karina Munoz posted matching career-high 9.900s to tie for the vault title, and Munoz used another 9.900 on the bars to tie for first as well.
Iowa Softball went 5-1 on the week, led by a huge week on the mound by Breanna Vasquez and continued dominance at the plate from Nia Carter. Hawkeye Baseball went 1-2 against Texas Tech, receiving another strong start from Brody Brecht and a monster 474-foot home run from Kyle Huckstorf. Both Golf teams were in action as well, highlighted by a top-10 performance from Paula Miranda on the Women's side.
