It was another banner week for Hawkeye sports as they racked up the wins in the last week of non-conference play. Iowa field hockey picked up two shutout wins, 5-0 over Vermont and 8-0 over Merrimack College. Freshman superstar Dionne van Aalsum continued her incredible season, scoring a hat trick against Vermont and following it up with two more against Merrimack. She's now got 21 goals on the year, just six behind the Iowa freshman record of 27. The Hawkeyes retained their #1 ranking for the third straight week and van Aalsum picked up yet another Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award.

Elsewhere, Iowa volleyball picked up a pair of wins against Syracuse and Cornell and now sit at 8-4 as they head into conference play. It was a convincing pair of straight-set wins over lesser competition for the volleyball team, but it's the exact kind of performance you want to see when the Hawks are favored. They fought off runs from both groups before pulling away for dominant set three wins. The team will now turn their attention to a major conference test, Minnesota this Thursday at 6:00 on FS1.

Iowa soccer drew its first conference match against Illinois after a clutch 84th-minute goal from Kelli McGroarty. The Hawks played a strong match against good competition but they will no doubt feel they left points on the table, outshooting the Illini and only conceding a goal off of a mental error. The team will look to pick up its first conference win this week against Wisconsin.
