It's almost Labor Day, which means college sports are finally back. Iowa is poised for another big year across the athletic department and we'll be here each week to highlight some of the best from Hawkeye Olympic sports. We're kicking the year off with a bang, spotlighting Iowa Field Hockey. The Hawks took down #12 Wake Forest and #1 North Carolina last weekend in an electric start to what now looks like a big season. Freshman Dionne van Aalsum was a standout on the weekend, scoring twice in each game. It was another freshman, Lieve van Kessel, who came through with the clutch overtime golden goal against UNC.
Iowa Field Hockey lost All-Americans and longtime starters to graduation, but the team looks as talented as ever. They were ranked #7 to start the year but figure to take a big jump after a tremendous week.
Elsewhere in Hawkeye sports, Hawkeye soccer is off to a perfect 3-0 start, Iowa volleyball picked up their first win of the season, and former Hawkeye Laulauga Tausaga earned a gold medal and the World Athletic Championships in discus.
You can catch up on all the amazing happenings in Hawkeye Olympic Sports here.
