On Fox News, GOP impeachment leaders spread false claims with impunity

When is a chubby intern with jizz on a blue dress going to make an appearance?

Were you picked on? I'm sorry some big bad person took your lunch money.
So some liberal judge sided with a corrupt agency that won't release data about the election. Then Fox is being run by a liberal and decided they had no chance with the judge and paid out. Smells of cover up to me. You're obsessed with one thing and not looking at all the other things. I wouldn't sell a car to you in a million years, because I don't sell cars for a living. See you read something and jump to conclusions before you have any facts. That's why you seeth about someone saying that they think Fox is closer to the middle and truth than the other networks. Once again I don't like Fox News and don't watch it. But you'll continue to pester me with your script written BS. Best part is you'll continue to say it over and over again thinking it'll become true. Example is Biden brother posted naked pictures of himself on a gay website. I could care less that he did, but it's already started that the GOP is using it to embarrass the President. No his brother did by doing it. That's it nothing more. No else posted it but him. He should have thought about it before doing it. Stop blaming everyone else and spinning crap. I just don't get how the far right and far left think. We the in the middle don't care about either of you. Just leave us out of it and leave us alone!

Tell me you willfully ignored every aspect of that case without telling me.

I can’t begin to count the number of reports that discussed the texts and emails that were unearthed from fox “journalists”…they KNEW the stories about the election were bunk, they KNEW the people were interviewing were not credible at best and flat out lying at worst.

They were screwed if it actually went to trial and they knew it.

Blah, blah, blah, blah. It was a huge cover up.

Gibberish. Even if you had a point, you state your case like a 6 year old.

The Republican push to impeach President Biden formally began on Thursday with a hearing held by the House Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill. By most objective accounts, it was not a huge success for the GOP, featuring witnesses who by their own admission couldn’t provide any evidence incriminating Biden and who were loath to state that such evidence existed.

Keeping up with politics is easy with The 5-Minute Fix Newsletter, in your inbox weekdays.

But in the creaky machine that is modern American politics, that doesn’t really matter. What matters is how the impeachment inquiry is perceived, and in that critical battle, the actual machinations in the hearing room are unimportant. What’s important are the snippets excerpted from the hearing and the extent to which flaws in either side’s case are smoothed over for mass consumption.
By that measure, the hearing was just dandy. Anyone tuning into Sean Hannity’s primetime Fox News program, for example, learned that Republicans execute a precision strike on the sitting president, offering up evidence that only a buffoon or a hack could deny. This presentation was made easier by Hannity’s playing host to the three Republicans leading the impeachment push — each of whom offered false, baseless or debunked claims to which the Fox News host offered absolutely no pushback.

The assiduously policed right-wing narrative about the president was left unharmed.

Hannity’s show began the way all serious news programs do, with the live studio audience chanting “U-S-A!” as the host welcomed them. Hannity then launched into his monologue, his usual articulation of Republican genius and Democratic stupidity with elements of the hearing slotted in to the appropriate places.
Someone inclined to be skeptical of Hannity’s daily presentations would very quickly wonder how his audience could continuously suspend disbelief. On Thursday, for example, Hannity alleged illegalities and unethical behavior by Biden that would make a New Jersey senator blush, arguing that the evidence of these actions was unassailable. Yet, he suggested, Democrats are so blinkered or craven that they simply ignore all of this, for days and months on end. And that’s the answer: Democrats would have to be utterly soulless and desperate for power in order to let this purported proof go unaddressed, so that’s the assumption about Democrats that carries the day.

“In our hyperpartisan world,” he said at one point, “Democrats still try almost anything to defend their president.” And then, a few minutes later, he credulously hosted Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), James Comer (R-Ky.) and Jason Smith (R-Mo.) to make false claims in an effort to backstop the failures of their impeachment hearing.
Jordan went first. He presented the same argument that he did in his opening remarks on Thursday, remarks that included explicit misrepresentations and falsehoods, as we documented shortly afterward. The simplest demonstration of Jordan’s dishonesty centers on his suggestion that Joe Biden’s son Hunter was asked by the Ukrainian energy company on whose board he sat to get rid of a Ukrainian investigator, which contradicts the available evidence, and that Joe Biden then traveled to Ukraine to begin a push to oust the investigator, which is flatly untrue. Among other things, the trip had been announced weeks prior to the purported pressure on Hunter.
Jordan also mixed in one of the myriad mini-bombshells that the right has briefly amplified over the past six months: a letter sent from board members of the company (including Hunter Biden) to the Ukrainian prosecutor in July 2016, asking that he halt investigations into the company. But this was the new prosecutor, the one brought on board after the first one was ousted for failing to address corruption thanks to American and international pressure. The letter came after the new prosecutor announced a robust probe into the company — an investigation that was not underway when Biden joined the effort to remove the old prosecutor.

In any sane world, this would be evidence that the removal of the old prosecutor was, as Hunter Biden’s former business partner testified, bad for the company, since it meant there might be (and was) a prosecutor that actually looked into their behavior. But “Hunter Biden objects to investigation” is a central component of Jordan’s argument, timeline and identity of prosecutor notwithstanding.

“If that’s not a corrupt influence-peddling scheme," he said, "I don’t know what is.” So it would seem.
Then it was Comer’s turn. He’s an old hand at exaggerating claims about Biden on Hannity, and he didn’t disappoint.
"We have bank wires that show the Bidens took $20 million from foreign nationals in at least five different countries,” he began, which isn’t true. At the hearing, he offered a more accurate assessment, that “to date, we’ve shown that the Biden family and their companies received more than $15 million” with other partners receiving more. A subtle distinction, but a telling one: his “$20 million” formulation has been part of his patter for months and he slips right back into it.

The rest of his argument was similarly familiar, including his presentation that Hunter Biden used “shell companies” which “shows money laundering” — inflammatory language that is in the first case misleading and in the latter unsubstantiated.
Comer also elevated one of the new arguments that emerged in the hearing.
“[Florida Rep.] Byron Donalds showed that text message today from Jim Biden" — Joe Biden’s brother — "to Hunter Biden when Hunter was going to rehab again,” Comer said. “He said, don’t worry, I’ll work with your dad. We’ll finish those deals.”
That isn’t what the message said. It was a response from James Biden to Hunter’s worries that he couldn’t “pay alimony [without] Dad or tuitions or for food and gas." This was in a period where Hunter’s uncle was trying to get him into rehab, a stint that proved unsuccessful, as Hunter Biden writes in his memoir. James Biden’s response to the text assures Hunter that “[t]his can work, you need a safe harbor” — and that he would work with Hunter’s dad.

ADVERTISING

“We can develope [sic] a plan together,” James Biden wrote. “It can work.” He did not say “we’ll finish those deals.” But, of course, Hannity did not correct Comer.
Finally, Jason Smith came up to the plate. He’s newer to this whole thing and mostly repeated what Comer said. He did point to a document showing that Joe Biden’s name was removed from a search warrant targeting potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
“There was obstruction in investigating President Joe Biden,” Smith said — but that email was sent in August 2020, when Joe Biden was a private citizen and the Justice Department was under the purview of William P. Barr, appointed by then-president Donald Trump.

If you were watching Hannity’s show, though, none of this context and correction was presented. You saw Hannity spend 10 minutes or so railing against the imperviousness of the evidence against Biden and the nefariousness of anyone who denied that fact. You heard three elected Republican leaders making explicit claims about Biden without hearing any of the qualifications those claims demand. And then you heard Hannity praise their work and the studio audience applaud before going to commercial.

The point of failure here isn’t really Hannity, though. It’s that elected officials can make the same false claims over and over, misrepresent what they know multiple times in the span of hours and face no pushback. It’s that the bubble surrounding all of this is so impermeable that it forms a closed terrarium, a self-sustaining environment that resists any outside intervention.
But what else can we do but sit here outside of it, attempting to convey reality like we’re dropping leaflets into North Korea?
What a garbage post!

I know they lie for a fact. I was forced to go to a Biden rally in 2020 because of work. There was about 50 people there. They put us in rented cars from the local dealerships. Later on CNN & MSNBC they reported thousands of people. There was 50 or so of us and we all knew each other. I'm pretty sure there where more news people than people in cars in the crowd.
You are an obvious troll but stating you were forced to go to a Biden rally because of work is a great one. Impressive. A double thumbs up. I assume you are one of @binsfeldcyhawk2 other handles.

I'm a Troll, huh? Awww, I offended another Liberal by stating something that happened right in front of my eyes. Come on, please 🙏 pretty please, tell me it never happened or you need proof (and if my proof isn't from a liberal site then it's a lie) or you were there and it didn't happen that way or ..... Wait for it...... My personal favorite "I'm a racist." I'm as middle of the road as they come. But, but Liberals, you guys have no idea what people say behind your back at stores, restaurants and other public places. Believe me it's not a good thing. My job has me traveling all over the country dealing with the public on a daily basis. Most people just nod when you say your stupid stuff, only because they just want you to leave. I used to be that way, but y'all have pushed me to the point that I have started pushing back. Y'all are idiots plain and simple. You find one thing that someone says and repeatedly yap it, but ignore 100 things that point to something different. If that doesn't work, you silence anyone who says the 100 things. You're Communists and start owning up to it.

Your work forced you to go to a Biden rally. Holy shit.

Then you weren't forced. Are you admitting that? Up your game, Buckwheat.
I'm not sure what you're confused about? Whether I have a job or they paid people well to go to Biden rallies? So I'll start over for ya, I'll type slow for ya too.
1) I have a real job. One that I have to get up early and stay late for. And twice a month they put real money in my account. This enables me to buy things I need. Like cars, home, stuff to keep the home operating, food, clothes and college degrees.
2) I received a pretty good amount of money to go sit in a car and listen to Shinedown, Three Days Grace and other kick ass music. When they hit a button and a light came on, I honked the horn. I'd been a fool not to. Some idiots stood on a stage and said a bunch of lies and stuff that I could care less about. Have no idea what was said, because Diamond Eyes is just way too good to not air guitar too.
I hope that helps you understand a bit better 🤷

Okay? What's your point. They paid a butt load of money. Who was I to say no.

You just are not good at this
Come on, try harder than that. I was almost there, you almost had me turned. I was just about to dye my hair neon colors, start wearing a mask in my car by myself, thinking the world was coming to an end in a few years, I damn near quit my job and lived off the Gov, get on social media and intrude on people and tell them they are wrong, silence all the Doctors who don't agree with our point of views and cancel Christmas. With just a little effort on your part I'll change. And then I'll feel guilty about too if that makes you happy. Because that's really what it's all about, right? It's all about you?

Jesus Christ. I was trying to say I wouldn't trust you. You don't like me. Fine. I don't like you. We put fact-based, researchable, validated information in front of you. Like all wingnuts, you ignore and deny it. I don't spin. I will not reveal my background but have experience with international government agencies and the military and enjoy bantering on HROT as a pastime. This includes confrontations, which you enjoy as well.

Keep this in mind. I do not bullshit. I am and stay informed. Everyday. Lived through and was influenced by the Civil Rights years in the 50s, -, the tumultuous 60s (Kennedy. MLK assassinations, Vietnam, Civil Rights, Space Race) the 70s (Vietnam, Watergate, Civil Rights). My parents were liberal and engrained into me and my siblings the importance of caring, even in an imperfect world. I'm a Baby Boomer that never felt otherwise.

Opinions are judgements. Representations based on information an individual assimilates. Where a person gets the information is critical if that information is subject to scrutiny. The Russia collusion example is the ideal demonstration of question raised/question answered. The Right refuses to accept the fact collusion has been proved, insisting the Mueller report is the determinate.

The Senate Intelligent Committee performed an investigation which incorporated the Report and concluded the Republican presidential campaign committee colluded directly and indirectly with Russian operatives, and Russians interfered with and during the presidential election.

If you rely on computer sites for news, you are living in the conspiracy universe. So, if you disagree there is no point conversing further on this subject. If so, many of you are.

Well, this is refreshing. Thank you. You gave a very heartfelt, intelligent and well put together response. I truly mean this, thank you.

I was just after you. I know the times you speak of. You are correct about many of the things that have happened. But you've left one thing out that every event has in common, Democrats/Republicans/Government. They made every single event and made us pay for it. I'm sick of it.
We need to get us back. We vote every single incumbent out for many years. Never letting anyone get a hold of anything.

I have ZERO social media accounts. I look at all (and I mean all) forms of news. Many are slanted one direction or the other. So I will hear or read something and go to the other side of it and read or hear they're side. Then wait and when things start to play out over time make MY judgement as to what really happened. My opinions are just that, MINE. I don't tell people they are wrong because they don't see it that way. I have found that sources aren't always reliable. The media (no matter which way they side) are semi correct at best. I take no side, I'm not MAGA, I'm not Liberal. I'm just sick of people running their yap telling me I'm the problem, when all I want is to have a normal life. I don't cause anyone any harm, tell no one how to live their lives, so why should I have to take it from them? I didn't even want to say anything on here, but some assclown jumped on the Wrestling tread and started BS. Why can't I just get on a site and read about my beloved Hawkeyes, and not have someone interject their BS? I'm pissed. I'm really pissed, and from my (standing off in the distance watching) the Liberals are the worst. They remind me of the days years ago in the south when some Southern Baptist would harass me and my family going into a restaurant. Jesus just leave people alone. I get you have passion in your belief. But they are your beliefs and other people will either see it and join in or they won't. It's that simple. Leave people alone. Let them do what they want. This is America and we have the right to be individuals.

I hope you understand now where I'm coming from. You were raised one way and I another. We can both agree on that much. The other, well I look forward to hearing from you (with respect from me) and I hope you the other way. Respect is the hard to get and must be earned. Name calling is easy and gains nothing.

Thank you again and I now have great respect for you!

Thanks for the reply. I want you to know I am steadfast in MY opinion of people not willing to accept facts and reality. This is not an accident or incidental. I listened to a few minutes of ONE Rush Limbaugh broadcast 2 decades or so. I thought it was a comedy show. How could WHO radio put this shit on the air? A blustering idiot blubbering about nonsense. Over and over.

The link below is a good example. An episode, The 4 Corners of Deceit, is one of the ammunition the Right, including Gingrich, the Freedom Caucus, conservative media (including internet) and the Republican Party have built on to construct their anti-American agenda. Read it. Rantings like this are not mature or intelligent. Why or better yet, what type of person would this appeal to?

Again, slant or bias has to be weighed. In case of network coverage or reporting bias is justified with the majority providing the networks are reputable. An outlying network with contradicting coverage or failure to provide coverage can't be considered as trustworthy. News availability is not confined to news networks. Online news sites are unregulated, indiscriminate and unreliable. It's foolish to peruse these conspiracy theory laden sites. Once drawn in, peruses are hooked. Like gamblers to casinos.

You don't watch Fox,..O.K.! But Fox is a component of conservative media operating without guardrails. Messages bouncing around conservative media are consistent by design. Their credibility depends on consistency within the industry to counter MSM, which operates with strict guidelines. People unwilling to believe this live outside the boundaries of reality. It cost Fox 787 million and they are looking down the barrel of another 2 billion lawsuit. It's a matter of time when the other ultra-conservative networks face the music or wise up.

You are right, it did cost Fox a lot of money. Problem is we never got to hear whether it was lies or not. It never made it to court and a Jury. Settlements are just that, settle and make it go away. Whether they were in the right or wrong. It happens every day in life. Large operations will settle just to make things go away. I don't know and no one really knows what the truth was.

As far as the others, not sure I agree. Why should they have to change when the far left won't change. It takes both sides to make it work. If the left won everything and did everything you wanted them too, you and everyone wouldn't like it. Same goes for the Right, if they won everything, people would be really unhappy. It is why the system is so great. It balances itself out. They both have blood on their hands, and both lie. both sides have good people, both sides have bad people. I'm just getting to the point of losing my mind with the, "you have to take a side crap." I encounter a lot of people in my line of work, and I get that same vibe from 9 out 10 people.

I'm glad you are passionate about your beliefs. I may not agree with some. But saying only one side is right is just wrong. People are just plain tired of hearing that one way or the other is the only way and the other side is nothing but liars. That's really the point I'm trying to get across. No one listens to what people are saying. Everyone is too busy telling people what they want and what they want everyone else should be.

Shinedown and Three Days Grace? Some say they're just too good not to air guitar to. Jesus Christ. I nominate you for Most Waterloo, Iowa man of the century. Well anyway, welcome to the internet. Lots of stuff has been happening here for about 30 years now but your folks mostly just jumped on Facebook in 2010 and KnowYourMeme is a great resource for catching up on things.

Fox very easily could have proven they did not show fake news but they preferred paying $700M and issuing an apology. Makes sense.

Guess you don't understand Civil law enough to understand that every Corporation eventually settles to get on with it. It has been common practice for a long time. Ever since McDonald's paid for a hot coffee in a lap.

Except those pesky emails and texts that admitted it. Let's not discuss those. You aren't good.

What, you don't think that happens in every single business in America? He I had half a dozen of them with my supervisors today. Don't be stupid.

How about we just open up all the computer files of the votes that night. It'll shut everyone up and we can move on. But no they have to keep it a secret.
