Gets us to a bowl and a chance to snap our bowl losing streak. At this point I am hoping for San Diego or San Francisco against Utah.

Oh, boy. I'm going to schedule oil changes in all of my cars for good karma.

The matchup in last year's epic Quick Lane bowl was 6-6 Maryland vs. 6-6 Boston College. We just need one more win to be good enough to have the privilege of playing a 6-6 ACC team in Detroit!

No, let's be serious. Next week is Iowa's bowl game this year. I hate to say that given how badly Iowa has been blown out in its last four (five ???) bowl games.

Now that I think about it, Detroit is an awesome bowl destination. There are so many abandoned houses in that city that it should be easy to find a free place to sleep for the night. It's not like anyone's going to break in and hurt you, either. There's nothing left to loot in those gutted neighborhoods. Someone find out the best burnt out neighborhood and we'll all tailgate there before the big game.

I am going to stay at the MGM Detroit, you're welcome to join me.

POST OF THE DAY! Made me laugh.

In all seriousness, it's estimated there are 80,000 abandoned buildings in Detroit.

Couple years ago Minnesota and Nebraska both went to bowl games with 5-7 records.

I say we made it baby!

That was only because there were not enough 6 win teams to fill all the bowl slots. Unlikely to happen this year.

Wow, I didn't know it was that bad. I had to poke fun, but in all seriousness that is really sad. I can't imagine what that community has been through.

The city is bankrupt. They've had no money to tear down the abandoned buildings.

In fact, the old Packard plant on the east side, which is spread out over 20-some acres I think, is still standing and has been closed since the late 1950s I think.

Disagree. Nebraska has always been Iowa fans bowl game.

That's sad. And probably dangerous. I'll bet people went through those places long ago to pull out all of the copper piping. Other than that, there's probably not much else of value in those places. I did read an article a couple years back about artists coming from all over to live in abandoned buildings and, I guess, make art. I don't know what happened with that, though. I can't think of another city Detroit's size that has collapsed like that. I think Detroit used to be like the fourth or fifth largest city in the U.S.

Never in my adult life (call it 2000)have I felt like an Iowa team would benefit as much from going to a bowl. Even a crappy bowl.

the same way that the Iowa/ISU game is ISU's bowl game,

I was referring to Iowa's proclivity for laying an egg, being outclassed, and getting blown out in bowl games since, what, 2011? 2013? Can't remember. It's been a while. ISU has nothing to do with this. My guess is that Ohio State will put a Rose Bowl-sized stomping on Iowa this weekend. I'll hope for the best, but I see a bowl game-like meltdown coming this week. I have no idea how Iowa will move the ball against Ohio State's defense. Iowa's defense, no matter how salty, is going to be exhausted by halftime. They might keep Iowa within two TDs going into half, but I'd guess it'll be all but over by the fourth quarter. Kinnick Magic has never worked very well on Ohio State. Other teams succumb to it, but Ohio State rarely does.

in past bowl games Iowa has been riddled with injuries. last season it was CJ. in the RB Iowa lost SR All BT Ott in the season then in the BT Championship SR Meyer got hurt and Iowa lost their sack leader, Canzeri was hurt, the OL was riddled with injuries that FR Daniels got his 1st start at LG. the only 2 OL to stay healthy were C Blythe and RG Walsh the other 2 OL were moved because of injuries, Welsh started at RT, Myer made his 1st start at LT,

the scoring was deceiving, here were Stanford's 1st 3 scores
75 yard TD Pass
63 yard PR for a TD
62 yard Pick 6
at the 7:38 minute mark of the 1st quarter Standford had a 21-0 score having the ball on offense just once. stats for the game for Stanford
12-21 223 yards 34 carries for 204 yards 427 total yards,
take out that 1st pass and their QB is 11-20 for 148 yards. after the 1st play of the game, not exactly domination like the score indicated,

in 2013 when JR was a 1st year starter and Wiesman was the RB the score between #4 OSU was 24-24 after the 3rd quarter and the final score was 34-24, the previous score between OSU and Iowa were these
#9 OSU 20-17
#11 OSU 27-24

OSU has not dominated Iowa, I doubt they will this year. the Iowa defense is 12th in scoring defense after 8 games,

You already won your Super Bowl. Anything else is gravy.

My company's headquarters are just outside Detroit. One positive is the city was logistically built and spread out to house 2-3 million people but yet only has 900k within city limits meaning traffic isn't that bad for a "big city." I love when my Detroit counterparts drive into Chicago and are late to the meetings because of traffic they didn't expect. But hey if we go to Detroit it'll be a cheap 2 day vacation versus the money I shell out to go south and watch the Hawkeyes get dismantled.

Also not a huge part of downtown, but Greek town near the casinos is nice with some good restaurants.
