Oregon State lineup

Curious to know why Wilson is going instead of Assad? The interview of him I was under the impression he was going Friday night, but then Wilson went. I hope if Wilson is going its because he is best option and someone isn't hurt or sick again. Wilson looked massive and gritty!

Should probably be it’s own thread…..but how many weights (and which ones) could we have back ups I’m and still have a chance at a title?

To be fair they both went against Princenton. Abe wrestled in the extra match and pinned the same guy that Wilson took down at will.

4 weights could conceivably be manned by back-ups without sacrificing more than ~10 NCAA team points. But it's more about the fact that at 3 of those weights we're not expected to score more than ~5 anyway. It just reinforces the fact that you need finalists to win NCAAs. Anyone outside top 4 doesn't help that much. (Rankings by wrestlestat)

1. 149: #23 Turk/#36 Reyna/#128 Siebrecht in place of #16 Murin
2. 184: #35 Wilson in place of #12 Assad
3. 165: #93 Kennedy in place of #1 Marinelli (need to see how Kennedy does at Midlands)
4. 157: ? in place of #8 Young

I think every wrestler in these rankings should be higher except the BULL

Expected matchups:
125:
Iowa's Jesse Ybarra (4-0) vs. Brandon Taylor (2-1)
133: Iowa's Austin DeSanto (5-0) vs. Devan Turner (3-2)
141: Iowa's Jaydin Eierman (4-0) vs. Grant Willits (4-2)
149: Iowa's Cobe Siebrecht (5-0) vs. Cory Crooks (3-3)
157: Iowa's Kaleb Young (4-1) vs. Hunter Willits (4-2)
165: Iowa's Alex Marinelli (5-0) vs. Matthew Olguin (2-4)
174: Iowa's Michael Kemerer (0-0) vs. Mateo Olmos (2-1)
184: Iowa's Myles Wilson (1-0) or Abe Assad (3-1) vs. Jackson McKinney (2-2)
197: Iowa's Jacob Warner (3-0) or Zach Glazier (3-1) vs. J.J. Dixon (1-5)
Hwt.: Iowa's Tony Cassioppi (0-1) vs. Gary Traub (2-4)

Hope murin is ok. I wanna see him in action!! If siebrecht beats crooks tho that is huge for him. Then the spot would be up for grabs. Crooks is tough even with the 3-3 record. Both willit’s are tough. Young beat willits to aa last year. Another good test for young.

I don't think beating Crooks is a big enough win to claim the weight is up for grabs, but Willits is a good rebound opponent for Young. Let's see what he's made of.

Crooks is a tough out for anybody. That would be siebrechts biggest win to date.

Let’s see: Confirmation Lee isn’t ready due to injury. Confirmation Kemerer has been hurt. And we saw Warner get hurt at Luther. Sounds like some people owe @artradley and a few others some props.

Nice research, I was about to look it up, but I was not going to guess those four weights only accounted for 10 points. I think, though, we need a lot more points out of 165 than we’ve been getting.

I’d put money on it that marinelli gets more points then previous years.

The covid cancellation year I think he would have won and this wouldn’t be a monkey that he has to carry around on his back. I’m not sure he’s been the same guy since, but I’d be hard pressed to find two better 165’s than him right now. I’m rooting for him and I think he gets it done. It’d be a good story, and he’s in need of a good story to close out his campaign as a Hawk I reckon.

I think Assad’s match was 20-30 minutes prior to the dual from what I saw on Twitter.

Not sure exactly when the match happened, but it was at least an hour before the meet. I was there pretty early, and didn't even know the match had taken place until I saw it on Twitter.

Are they running extra matches before Duals this year? When?

Someone in the know can correct me if I'm off base, but I understand it as the competing teams basically decide between themselves if/when/how many extra matches occur.

No idea on the restrictions(redshirt) or how they count toward official records...

I was there well over an hour before and knew nothing about it either, but I was distracted up at the top this time, explaining to people who didn't know, why my mom wasn't there. I can't believe I didn't notice a match going on, though.

Last year may have been slightly different because of Covid. But last year they were official matches.

And I am assuming you cannot compete in them if you were redshirting… I don’t see why it would be any different then an open tournament where you cannot wear this thing with or have a coach in your corner.
