Congrats. A wife getting the shit kicked out of her for years is worth exactly 3 games. Meyer is the biggest sleezeball in college football, and the OSU program is the new pariah. So glad we have Kirk Ferentz running our program. At least our wins won't have "the program that empowers wife beaters" attached to it for the foreseeable future.

I would like to dedicate some of my personal time, visiting various public recruiting forums...highlighting my opinion on how disgusting this decision is. Nothing but a PR move.

Perhaps relentlessly sharing my perception that this University places ZERO value in character or personal morals will assist their recruiting efforts.

OP isn’t just talking about the Zach Smith and Urban Meyer issue, throw in the sexual abuse allegations from the wrestling program.

Not close to the same. Child rapist is not equal to covering up abuse
They said in the press conference last night that they felt strongly that Urban didn’t cover anything up. There is a difference in covering something up and ignoring red flags.

There is, however neither is doing the right thing.

The almighty $$>morals in this country and has been for some time.

Anyone surprised by the outcome of this "investigation" was kidding themselves from the beginning. No, Ohio State was never going to do the right thing, like a lot of schools who place winning ahead of integrity and a moral compass. They aren't unique. Nor is Urban Liar.

Second, comparing decades of child molestation and the turning of a blind eye to it that occurred at Ped State is not even close to comparable. What happened at Ped State, and the disgusting and reprehensible denial of reality that still exists in the overwhelming majority of their fan base today, is so nefarious, so vomit-inducing, it absolutely stands alone on the spectrum of evil in college football. Please do not ever again make that comparison.

The scandal that is comparable is the MSU gymnastics scandal. But because it was gymnastics and not football, it never really created the outrage it could have.

I'm moving on to Iowa football now. But first, we'll see how OSU handles the lawsuits over the wrestling scandal. Settlements I'm sure. And I'm not so sure that the reporter, Mcmurphy, didn't hold back some incriminating information on Meyer.

uh huh:

Urban Meyer was alerted to “a bad article” by Ohio State's director of football operations Brian Voltolini during a practice on Aug. 1.

That story by college football reporter Brett McMurphy, claiming that Meyer was aware of 2015 domestic abuse allegations involving previously fired receivers coach Zach Smith, led to a weeks-long investigation that resulted in Wednesday's three-game suspension for Meyer and a suspension for athletic director Gene Smith.

But it’s the conversation on the practice field that day between Meyer and Voltolini that investigators tapped by OSU’s Board of Trustees found troublesome.

“The two discussed at that time whether the media could get access to Coach Meyer’s phone, and specifically discussed how to adjust the settings on Meyer’s phone so that text messages older than one year would be deleted,” according to the summary of findings made public late Wednesday night.

...
The school didn’t take possession of Meyer’s phone until Aug. 2 and the “phone was set to retain text messages only for that period (one year),” according to the report.

“We cannot determine, however, whether Coach Meyer’s phone was set to retain messages only for one year in response to the August 1st media report or at some earlier time,” the report stated. “It is nonetheless concerning that his first reaction to a negative media piece exposing his knowledge of the 2015-2016 law enforcement investigation was to worry about the media getting access to information and discussing how to delete messages older than a year.”

I'm curious how many of you are aware that Courtney's mother stated that she thinks her daughter made it up. That the police department thought her injuries were a result of Zach defending himself from her attacking him.

The danger of an accusation like this for men is fairly evident. Zero doubt Zach has some serious issues and deserved to be fired. The whole story should include Courtney's abuse, dishonesty, and manipulation.

The mother sounds like a nut:

Either way, Urban Meyer still had the responsibility to report the allegations to OSU which he failed to do.

We're.you aware that the title 9 office already knew. That it was reported to them by the police department.

Courtney is not and was not a reliable reporter of anything. Zach cheated. He was a bad husband and employee. Hasn't been convicted of anything.

Where is the outrage for Courtney making stuff up in order to gain advantage in a divorce proceedings? I guess that is ok.

I don't buy the reponsibility to report nonsense being thrown around. That is crap. Why exactly does any boss have an obligation to report an accusation heard third hand?

Where are his documented injuries. Where are her text messages admitting to abusing him. Where’s the police reports he filed?

All three sound nuts by the way. I think Zach being fired was more than justified. Urban is the one that pushed for him to be fired.

I just do not like the free pass given to Courtney. He is the abuser because she said so? Um...no

Same place as hers....

Do you think he needs to have injuries for him to need to defend himself from her attacking him?

So everything she’s said, texted, taken pictures of over a period of years is fake?

Perhaps not everything. But yes enough is manufactured to doubt anything she has to say.

That is then opinion of her own mother....

Her estranged mother. Also, why did OSU take any action all then if it’s all lies?

Zach did enough to get fired without this.

Courtney lied. There is absolutely no doubt about it. The police say she lied. Zach says she lied. Her mother says she lied. Why are you so naive to think women always tell the truth about this. Especially in divorce and custody proceedings.

Doesn't make Zach right. Just means more than one person can be an ass. Which Courtney most certainly is

The 2 have one thing in common. A higher then should be segment of their fanbase view their athletic departments as victims. If you want to throw up watch the BTN special on PSU's 2016 season.

This is a very, very dangerous comment and I’m not saying it cannot be true or is not true of KF but any time you say well ‘glad it’s not happening in our backyard’ you set yourself up for major disappointment.

Football coaches are mere men. Many have weaknesses and character flaws like anyone else. They are paid mega bucks to WIN over anything else. The rest is lip service.

Urban Meyer is still at OSU because he’s 73-8 in the B1G and beats Michigan. If he was winning less and losing to Michigan he’d be gone already. That’s also a message we send as fans and is reinforced by the nature of competition. There’s no ‘doing it right top 25’ or ‘doing it right playoffs’ that I am aware of.

This is not even close to the PSU scandal. In the PSU scandal, the real police never found out about the allegations until 10 years after the fact and then there were charges against the 3 PSU admin. In the tOSU scandal, the police were involved the entire time and no arrests or charges were filed until 2018 (and those were for violating a restraining order or something like that, not domestic abuse).

So basically, if the woman is an ass she has it coming? Fair game, right?

Correct. We should never assume stuff like this can't happen at Iowa. Yes, if Urban goes 8-4 or 9-3 this year OSU will suddenly find a conscience and discover it can't keep him around.

The big ten or the NCAA needs to step in. So sick and tired of schools determining their own punishment (or lack of punishment). This shit is getting so old. UNC hoops should have gotten punished, PSU shouldn't even have athletics, MSU shouldn't either, Minny, Nebby in 90's when Peters and Phillips were allowed to play, all these NCAA hoops teams with FBI probe, the list goes on and on. It will continue until somebody grows some balls and stops it!

Absolutely! Gosh golly mister you sure called that!

Or.maybe she is a liar and manipulated the situation to her benefit in a divorce and custody proceedings. She physically attacked him and the pictures and texts were a result of him defending himself physically from her attack. She played the victim to gain leverage and advertised her victimhood not for help but for advantage.

He is a scumbag. So is she

I'm am surprised at this result frankly. This is the same administration (I think) that fired Jim Tressel. Tressel lied and covered up players selling OSU stuff on the street.

Bruce Pearl lied to cover up a recruiting picnic at his house. Also fired.

UM failed to do the right thing that was staring him in the face for many years. He HIRED the friggin' guy knowing he was a wife beater. Slap on the wrist.

And while I'm at it, WTF is the deal with a 3 game suspension?? For what did he get suspended for that wasn't a fire-able offense?

I am NOT happy about this. Whatever happened to character in this country? There are so many coaches out there that are scum.

Can't wait for the standing ovation UM will get when he runs on to the field in a few weeks. Disgusting.

Wrong, better check your facts. The police were involved in 1998 and in fact the DA chose not to prosecute Sandusky as he felt there was not enough evidence.

He has a responsibility because the University accepts Federal money and since they do, they and he are required to report it. Oh and by the way, there is specific language in his contract that also requires it. he signed it, and then knowingly hired a coach with a record of abuse. I don't have an issue with giving someone another chance, but he was fore warned. and he chose to ignore it. Everything else is just spin.

I’m talking about the McQueary allegations from 2001 obviously. The police didn’t know about that until 10 years later, thanks to JoePa and company.

It’s all about the alcohol which leads to the money.

If alcohol was not allowed in and around college stadiums it wouldn’t be near as popular. People love to tailgate and drink, it makes football an event. It fills up bars and garages/ man caves across the country.

The billions pour in. Winning pushes it even higher.

If Ohio State was lising to Michigan he would be gone. Even more dirt would be released so urban could be fired with cause. This was likely told to him yesterday during his 8-10?hours of talks. They said shut up and take the three games I get nothing.

Let’s all please end the “The” in The Ohio State University. They don’t deserve it.

What I don’t get is why protect this scum bag all these years? He was a WR coach. They are like a dime a dozen.
