Trevor Mastrogiovanni ranked #6 just lost to #19 Kysen Terukina 3-1 @ 125. First loss of the season. Okie State struggling this far.

Dual tied 6-6 after Degen loses 6-4 in ot.

David Carr vs Wyatt Sheets now

Geer gets spanked by Coleman. 8-3.

OSU in big trouble again today

ISU wins 20-12. Cowboys have some work to do. Score likely would have been 16-15 ISU even if Ferrari wrestled

According to one of the commentators, ISU had five, 1st period TD's and OSU had one. Wow!

1 first period TD out of 10 matches?

And against ISU?

I don’t think Coleman AA.
I can respect that. I thought he’s looked decent as of late, I was thinking 7th or 8th.
My prediction would be Big 12 runner-up. He’s only lost once so far and should go to the NCAA’s with two loses. I am guessing the 7th or 8 seed at national. The 7 seed would make it more probable.

Carr & Coleman AA. 197 maybe. I don’t know how this gets them in the top 5?
That's not even top ten. Clones are somewhere 11-15, imo.

Cowboys showed against UNI and ISU that they're vastly overrated.

The only thing savings John Smith's job is his name.

Maybe 4th?!
Yep, I wavered whether to think Wisconsin/Minnesota ahead of them, also. I think Ohio State is better also, given recent recruiting.

John Smith has earned the right to step away at his choosing, but I think it's time.

When that time comes to replace Smith just think of the possibilities!

They lose to PSU, Iowa, Michigan, and probably tOSU. Maybe even Wisconsin and Minny. Best is 4th, could be 7th or 8th. They are ranked higher on Intermat than they would even finish in the B10?!

Has DeSanto ever escaped from a Fix ride? If ADS figures that out, then, yes, he has a decent chance.
DeSanto was able to escape Fix last year in the semis easily but like the RBY match, DeSanto chased him all over the mat and couldn’t finish on the legs. DeSanto needs a better and different game plan because being the aggressor and shooting just to shoot isn’t working.

Those are all big names, not sure how qualified they are, but I'd be surprised if the job didn't go to Espo when the time comes.

Popolizio. They will stay in house (still too much pride in the program) and he's the best current coach from their stable. Unless they could steal Sanderson, who would be a fool to go. They should go after Cunningham or Pritzlaff, if they were smart. None of those other guys have the coaching experience. Just because you are a great wrestler doesn't necessarily mean you can coach or recruit.

Brands, Sanderson and John Smith were pretty fair Wrestler's and have been recruiting pretty well for a long time. Does any Iowa fan not want Spencer Lee as the next Head Coach? We have no idea how good he'll be, but we'll gladly take our chances I think.

Okie State has a fair amount of high ranked recruits, they're just not planning out the best currently. They have Fix and Ferrari, but they aren't very balanced apparently.

I didn't say great wrestlers don't make good coaches nor recruiters, I said NOT ALL great wrestlers do. Burroughs is the only guy on that list with much coaching experience at the DI level. I'm sure Snyder and Taylor and Dake have all worked with guys at their clubs/OTCs, but there is more to coaching than that.
I don't see OSU taking a chance on unproven talent. I forgot about Esposito when I wrote what I did. Not sure Popo would leave the gig he has either, but he was the first one that came. to mind
I also never said OSU doesn't have great recruits, I just said some of those guys MIGHT NOT be great recruiters.

Popo is jumping at that job and the natural successor.

The fact they literally had not wrestled any quality teams or at any major tournaments until this weekend probably has a lot to do with how they performed. Not battle tested at all. They do match up pretty well with us though. If meat head is still out at 197 it no problem but with him they would be favored at 125, 133, slightly at 184 and 197. 149 and 157 are pretty even.

First off, they have really had a bad run of injuries for several years now. That could be overtraining, but who knows.

Still, Say what you will about Smith, but for the most part, he gets them ready for NCAA’s. Iowa is the ONLY team consistently top 5 since Brands took over, but PSU’s overall run has been untouchable and then after Iowa, OkState has actually been right there as the next best with tOSU. In fact, since Iowa won in 2010, OkState has placed above Iowa half the time!

2021: 3rd
2020: Covid but they qualified 9 and had seeds of 3,22,14,5,11,4,12,9 and 14.
2019: 3rd ahead of Iowa
2018: 13th
2017: 3rd ahead of Iowa
2016: 2nd ahead of Iowa
2015: 7th
2014: 3rd ahead of Iowa
2013: 2nd ahead of Iowa
2012: 6th
2011: 4th

I was wondering the other day after watching the Brands B1G Network doc who would take over the Iowa program? I heard from a guy who is close to the Brands family that he expects Tom to hang it up once he can no longer coach from the mat in practice and once a good name steps forward to keep the Iowa program to its high standards. Tom is in his mid 50's now so makes you wonder how many years he has left where he can coach the way he wants to coach?
