OSU will wear QR codes linked to their NIL

Hmmm...I read somewhere that Gundy lashed out at agents calling him trying to squeeze more money out of the school/NIL for CURRENT players.

Go figure...

How is this different than when people were suggesting putting a gen fund qr code on the back of seats, or on bleachers, or on the scoreboard?

The dude sitting at home has to hope the TV camera gets the right shot. Rewind and pause their DVR and scan a code. Or just Google Cowboy NIL fund

this is how you really feel?
Yes it’s gross. Grown adults that have their self worth tied to the outcome of kids playing a game to the point where they are willing to participate in paying the players.

It’s fricking pathetic.

It sure as heck should not be tax deductible on any level because it’s the definition of excess. The kid already is getting deluxe lottery level education with tutors and state of the art facilities. But here, take some more money and I will write it off. Frankly if you donate to NIL you should be taxed on your donation because you obviously don’t need the money.

1. It's going to the team gen fund.

2. They're all adults.

3. Few things in this world worse than creating and distributing child porn. So no, it really isn't as slimy as that.

I thought I heard that the qr code would give a link to the general fund and to the individual own separate account so you can choose where to give the money. Anyway, I don't really care anymore. College football just isn't what it used to be so outside of Iowa. I just haven't watched nearly as much the last couple years. And hell, with how boring Iowa has been, I have watched very little of the hawks the last couple years. The NFL is a far superior product anyway.

I've noticed that my excitement for the season to start isn't anywhere near where it usually is this time of year. It could be that I'm just distracted by a million other things going on right now but following NIL is so exhausting I'm sure it is contributing. Hopefully my interest increases once the season actually starts.

Self worth? Do you know these people or are you imagining them?

Pretty ingenious for a program that historically has had a hard time raising money and continually overachieves with 2-star and 3-star recruits.
Hard time raising money? Bullshit! Ever hear of oilman T Bone Pickens, T Bone Pickens Stadium?
Ol’ T Bone is an Okie State booster who “gifted” the athletic department $1 Billion a few years ago… lots of schools could use T Bone as one of theirs.

Wow. Now a guy scores a TD, people freeze the image, scan the QR and pay him. This opens up all kinds of possibilities...most of them not good.

I would ask "where does it end?", but let's face it. There is no end in sight. This is just more grease on the slippery slope.

Between this kind of stuff, unlimited no-penalty free agency - sorry, I mean transfers - et al and only teams with billionaire backing (IE, Oregon and Nike) will be able to compete financially every season.

Remember when kids were 'truly blessed' just to receive a scholarship and mostly only that - back room/under-the-table deals notwithstanding - to play at a university? Despite the recency of NIL, that all seems like decades ago now.

I thought he was talking about for a school like Iowa

Exactly. How about putting a bounty on an opposing QB? Blitzing LB takes out the QB, gets the targeting penalty and has to go to the locker room, but pockets $100K.

Why?
Makes perfect sense and just a logical use of today’s technology in today’s (sports) world.
This is nothing more than “be careful what you wish for, ‘cause you just might get it!”
The world moves on…..tomorrow it will be something else.
I agree that the players should be getting paid. It's just so chaotic. All the NCAA had to do was come up with a plan and they could have managed the process and kept control of what was happening. It's just so infuriating to see how they blew it so badly and now it's whatever this is. I don't think college football will ever go away but I think it's peaked as far as popularity and passion.

Here's what I think of this NIL bullsh**......
