OSU's 3 starting guards 42 pts, Iowa's 17 (with Perkins having a nice game minus stupid turnovers)

To me this is the story with Fran's teams, almost always beaten at the pt. guard and small wing positions. If you consider connor and uhlis as the two main pt guard ball handlers then wow, 1 pt with very little effective penetration.

I have been yelling about it for seasons and seasons Fran needs to get stud pt guards. Perkins is one of the few smaller guys who can make buckets off of dribble drive.

I wish they all played a lot better, I like them as hawks, but OSU is faster, maybe stronger, at these positions.

A lot of coaches would have given the keys to Bowen/Dix and hopefully with experience they improve enough by end of season that your team ends up with higher ceiling. Ulis and CMAC played too much this season given their limited abilities.

What Fran has chosen to do---bench Bowen is similar to what he did with JoeT last year. With the Portal, that means Bown likely gone.

If you review the PGs/guys under FRan.....Cartwright, Gessell, JBO, CMAC, Ulis.....that is unbroken chain of below average PGs. JBO obviously could shoot, but not much defensively or being able to create his own shot.

I think the little guy form Illinois comes in and plays a lot next year. Fran doesn't seem to be able to take turnovers, but he can live with bad defense.

In TP's after game interview, he was a very discouraged guy. I just think (IMO) he is not a happy camper with the program. His on-court body language and demeaner this year appears to be of someone who is really frustrated and not having fun.

Completely my personal observation with zero inside information. Time will tell very soon.

Perkins had a real good line today except for a few really sloppy turnovers. He had 16 points, 6 boards, only one foul. I would take that from him every game next year but would hope for more.

I think and have observed that he does hang his head a little too long after he makes a mistake.

A good player who would be even better with more upside consistency. And a decent defender, again not great

Perkins has TOs because he is a 2 trying to play pg half the time. Hes a 2 because he doesn't have enough handle to play the 1.

Just off the top of my head he had a huge steal that lead to a dunk on the press. Came over and made a great play on a helpside block. We go as Tony, Rebraca, and Kris go.

Yes, he had the best game of the guards today, but that isn't hard to do. First half he was pretty lethargic and not real focused. Perkins is a competitor and he doesn't want to lose but that doesn't mean he has not checked out. When he is totally vested in the game, you can tell. Today his body language and facial expressions, imo, told a totally different story. Like DewHawk said, he has not seemed happy this year except when he has played well.

Well he might be hard on himself is what I am saying. Just a thought but he had at least two lame turnovers in the first half and maybe did some other mistakes so he could have been down on himself. You have heard of moping around havent you. But kudos to him for having a nice 2nd half

His strength is getting in the paint for the pull-up jumper and getting to the rim. I think it shoots it well enough from distance to take advantage of that. I would like to see him be more aggressive with doing this but he just doesn't. Many times their spacing is poor and if they do drive, there are too many bodies and can't get anywhere.

Agreed. Iowa's half-court spacing is pretty bad most of the time and does negate driving lines. But the reason is IMO Iowa does not have any consistent 3-point shooters other than KM and PS to spread the floor. But they are streaky so ...............

I have no clue. Tony’s been one of our top players this year, he’s our best guard, and without a doubt our top returning player next year (assuming Kris is nba bound) and people are encouraging/stoking rumors of him leaving.

Perkins would be in high demand. I’m sure both Purdue and Indiana would take him in a heartbeat.

Perkins has always been sloppy with the ball, too much dribbling, especially in traffic. But he has an unstoppable mid range shot and strength to get to the rim.

PMac always seems to play well in a tournament setting, especially the NCAA’s. Hope he keeps it up.
