OT: Christian McCaffery's Brother Going To Nebby

Gee, thanks for telling us how great something Husker is on our board since yours is a safe haven for a narcissistic cult...

I was answering a question posed by a Hawk poster in this thread. That's it.

This is the internet. I go where I please.

Cannot be stated any better. Big 10 football is trench warfare, especially later in the season and until you have some talented big uglies up front and some OL depth you will have no chance come November. Heck, even the vaunted tOSU has struggled with Tackle depth the past few years and they have the pick of the litter in recruiting every year. Neb has suffered injuries, poor recruiting and development on the OL and DL and it shows.

And, obviously this doesn't fix itself in a year or two, it takes time, technique and a proper S&C program.

Agreed. I think Nebraska has more talent than they showed last year. I'm interested to see how much a new coaching staff will change the physicality they play with. I'd say that two years is a fair amount of time to expect things to be fixed. With 18-22 year olds, 2 years of proper nutrition and training is plenty of time to right the wrongs. One year, or less in this case, I agree is not enough time to expect many dividends outside of what the "change in culture" will pay. I guess some of the good news is that the culture was pretty relaxed and lacked a focus on the team being a brotherhood or a family. Frost is working hard to change that, per what the players are saying. So, hopefully we will see a bump from that. I'm not sure it results in winning more games (maybe it will), but I most hope that it will result in the team not quitting or folding its tent when it gets challenged.

I think Frost and Co. realize the need for quality line play. When Oregon had a lot of success, they were strong on the lines. It's not like the offense doesn't require good line play. It does.

Big 10 games are won in the trenches and I’ve seen no evidence of Nebraska understanding it.[/QUO

In the classes of '15, '16 and '17 Nebraska has had a total of 21 DL and OL committed. In the same span Iowa has had a total of 21 DL and OL committed. I think development is the biggest difference, not coaches not understanding the importance.

In another thread, a few Iowa folks said that Frost will have a very hard time getting his system to be successful until he gets good QB play. He now has two 4-star QBs in the last two classes to help get things headed in the right direction. I think it is pertinent to a discussion about Frost's offense and his ability to implement it in the B1G, especially when MANY fans have stated it won't work in the B1G.

Here is an interesting take from recruiting analyst and writer Jeremy Pernell, aka N2FL on HuskerMax message board regarding McCaffrey and his fit with Nebraska's offense:

"My thoughts are there are certainly guys we were sitting good with that would have a higher ceiling in almost every instance. But we have one of the most unorthodox QB coaches in the country. Some of the things he coaches and talks about are basically taught as complete no-no's by other coaches. Throwing late over the middle, throwing late over the middle across your body, falling back, throwing one footed, all those things he talks to. Then you see our guys actually repping doing those things in practice, and you start to see why Milton at UCF had success throwing some odd balls to get them to the receiver "by any means necessary". You then look at McCaffrey's film, and he's doing a lot of the things we coach. So you can then say you don't have to change anything on how you QB, and I can even enhance those for you and you'll be Mckenzie Milton in no time. So from a "fit" perspective, i'm not sure it gets much better. But could someone with a higher ceiling be taught these things and end up being a better QB for us? I don't know.

You can skew it either way: he's a 4-star on both ESPN as a QB and 247 as an athlete. He's the #8 dual threat and #149 player in the country on ESPN. He's the #17 athlete and #262 overall on 247. He's just a 3-star on Rivals.

You can only bring up the stats you want, or you can bring all of them up and be objective. He threw for 800 yds, 76% completion, 6 tds, 3 ints, 550 yds rushing, 7ypc, 9 tds, total QB rating 127.6 as a backup to the starter, who signed with Colorado this winter. Before that, his brother was the starter, who signed with Michigan. So, there is a reason he hasn't played much yet as a QB. As a sophomore, he mainly played WR and caught 47 passes for 700+ yds and 9 touchdowns. He's playing in 5A in Colorado, which is the largest classification in the state at enrollment of 1,825 students and up.

I know what will happen next, is Hawk fans will say, "Nebraska fans are annointing him the next Heisman winner," or something like that, which isn't happening. He's a good recruit and an extremely important position for Scott Frost's offense. He could be great or he could be a nothing. Time will tell. Personally, I'm happy with him as the class QB, and look forward to seeing if he's a gamer like his father and at least one of his brothers has proven to be.

Husker fan and not trying to be antagonistic, but provide some clarity. I know of no Husker fans appointing McC the Heisman (Martinez maybe though). Mac is widely viewed as the better athlete of the brothers, but has sat behind a pair of D1 QBs so far. We will see what he does this season, but look at his offer list to see what the general view of him is.

It is true that we have generally recruited fine (Cally could do it, Pelini hated doing it but developed better, and Riley could recruit but had no idea how to develop and motivate). 18 will be a transition year with a tough schedule, but 19 should the start of a return to being competitive. That is what everyone wants...be competitive each week and have a chance to win the conference.

Husker fans know this has been the problem. Pelini and Riley had OL coaches who were terrible. The last all-conference linemen was Richie Incognito in the Big 12 over a decade ago (statistically hard to go so long without one). I think we will see improvement here, but hopefully by 19 we will be noticeably better on the OL. Frost's OL coach has a solid track record, so we will see.

No problem. I know of no Husker fans doing that either. My point was that Husker fans pointing to Frost doing a good job of recruiting his all-important QB position and being excited about the prospects would be turned by some Iowa posters into "Husker fans anointing Heisman Trophy QBs" or however you want to state it before they step foot on campus. Husker fans are not doing this. But I've lingered here enough to know that that would be the next thing for Iowa fans to claim. They did it with Tanner Lee when the media and Manning Academy were lauding praises on him. Meanwhile, Husker fans were glad to hear this and had high hopes for him, but no one elevated him as the next Husker Heisman Winner. When Lee didn't play well, it didn't stop Iowa poster from saying, "Hey Husker fan, how's that Heisman winner/first round draftee working out?" Stuff like that.

Essentially, my point was that, based on history of some of the people on this board, that would be the predictable next step.

Would be nice if Iowa fans could post on the Nebby rivals board; guess that’s why you and other husker fans come here.

From an open conversation standpoint, this board is better. Clearly. Is that your point? I have met some really great people while conversing on the site. Because of that, I choose to put up with the sarcastic folks whose goal it is to ruin conversation who frequent this site - every site has them, its the way it is.

I have nothing to do with the mods and how they run the Husker site. I don't know any of them. I have never had a conversation with any of them. I don't feel guilt or shame when Iowa fans on this board whine about being banned from the site. I am not able to verify it nor do I care to. I don't mean this rhetorically: should I care?

The brother going to Michigan is light years better QB.
Not in Frost's offense he's not.

We'll see how he does at QB. No rush to play him with Martinez just a freshman. If it doesn't work out at QB he's a good enough athlete to play another position.

I agree with most of this. Except NU does have some OL talent to work with. It was just very poorly coached and the strength program under Riley was crap. Won't be that way under Frost and SC Duval.

I suppose an Iowa board is the best place to discuss and find more accurate and unbias info about the Husker program...my bad.

No doubt, Iowa turns out some amazing players. Kirk, for all people complain, is an amazing talent developer and spotter. One of the best, if not the actual best.

Nebraska has a LONG way to go before we can start to compete for trophies or the division title, but I think Frost is on the right track.

I view this as a positive for the West, for Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and all the other teams. The better the B1G is, the more recognition we all get.

My hope is that Frost succeeds and we see our end of year games, once they resume, becoming the determining factor in who goes to Indy. At least some of the time.

And it would be nice if the West could actually get good enough to compete in Indy.

Better competition should, I hope, equal better results and we will benefit as fans and the teams will benefit as well.

Nope you shouldn't care, but perhaps just make a comment in threads over there when seeing ignorant husker fans saying that Iowa fans must agree with a particular pro-Nebby stance and/or are too timid to post their rebuttals. No, it's simply that Iowa fans CAN'T post in such threads.

Well said.

I can do that if and when I see it.

You're missing the "point"...but that's no surprise
My point is that your point is unsubstantiated. You speak in innuendo like there is a shred of truth or fact to it. What your suggesting with your "euphemism" comment is nothing about nothing. It's not me, it's you.
