OT - FGCU just got Izzo-ed

There were people on twitter trying to defend the clock starting when the FGCU player released it (the pass, not the shot).

Yeah, I can't believe a ref screwed up in favor of MSU. That never happens.

Nope. Before this play, defender from MSU knocked down the inbound pass, literally straight back to the ground and somehow a full second ran off.

I am not 100% sure on the rule, but I think if the ball is touched in bounds the clock has to run a second. I thought it was similar to the football rule where if its under 2 seconds the game is over (clock running) type of thing.

No. The clock starts when the ball is touched in bounds and stopped when the ref blows the whistle to stop the clock. If there is .2 seconds between those two, then .2 should run off the clock. Watching in slow motion, it appeared that around .3-.4 too much ran off. That should be fairly easy to correct on review (which they didn't do).

The bigger problem was the clock starting the 2nd time when the FGCU player threw the ball the length of the court and the clock operator started the clock upon release. The clock should have still read 1.6 when the FGCU player caught the ball, instead it was on about .1-.2. The refs should have blown the whistle and reset the clock and the play.

Official explanations are like the word, "sorry". They leave you wondering if the giver actually meant what they said or were just trying to make themselves feel better.

The answer is would they do the exact same thing again?

Izzo? Catching a break? OK, yeah, they aren't sorry and the explanation is bullsh1t.

the bigger story here is you have a HOF coach struggling with a young team ...horrible defense..OH MY.

I'm sure they will get it figured out. Bridges is playing defense like Cook...damn 4 stars

I'd take a 4 star like Cook all day. Never mind the amount of points he's sticking in the basket ... people crabbing about his D? Ok!

So the horn sounding before (or at the same time) of the final shot is not going to effect it? Okay.

How they came to the conclusion to just end the game there without even looking at the monitor is crazy. There three plays at the end of the game where they should have been looking at the monitor to correct timing.

FGCU got Izzo'd big time. How their coach wasn't flipping his &$@% is a testament to his self control. How Boroski gets work is crazy too. His explanation in that retweet is comically sad how he avoids the play in question.
