Comcast Chicago (Direct TV 665 and 665-1 HD channels) have the IL Boys State Consolations and Championship HS game for 3A and 4A. Chicago Curie is likely to win the 4A tonight but the game to watch is the 2:00 p.m. 3A Championship of Belleville Althoff Catholic versus Lincoln Way West(Lenox, IL) where Jordan Goodwin will make his case for Mr. Basketball in IL as a Junior. About the only deficiency in Jordan's game is free throw shooting but his mechanics can be improved.
Everyone thought Belleville would be matched up with Peoria Manual and Fran William's Ill-annoy bound son Da'Monte. Da'Monte got in early foul problems and played uninspired basketball. Lincoln's discipline approach beat the Peoria playground ballers.
Belleville beat Gene Pingatore's St. Joseph's club (Hoop Dreams Movie) by tiring out the big man (Nick Rakocevic). I am glad Iowa did not get him (Nick the Stick) to commit as he may be a better scorer than Woodbury, he needs to redshirt and work on his vertical jump. St. Joe's did have a starting freshman point guard that Iowa should be in contact with after their season. The kid's name is Marquis Walker. He played varsity BB as a 8th grader last year in Kentucky. The kid has better talent than Hoops Dreams William Gates. Walker is very quick and an excellent ball handler although he does some freshman mistakes. He is definitely a kid to watch. I saw Jalen Brunson as a sophomore and Walker really shows some talent for the game as a freshman.
Anyway, Belleville game will be a feature of speed and athleticism. Jordan Goodwin is a guy Iowa could use as a big PG who can create his own shot and make very good passes in traffic. Great team player.
