GT finally hired a new head coach after stumbling away the potential hire of Bryce Drew from Valpo earlier in the week.
Josh Pastner from Memphis is their guy.
As I posted several days ago here, an article from the GT site at the beginning of their search mentioned Fran McCaffery as a name thrown out there.
Interesting note on Pastner:
9 years ago when Alford left Iowa, one person who Barta turned to to consult with was former Iowa coach Lute Olson.
Lute referred two guys for the job to Barta:
Kirk Speraw, who was Head Coach at Central Florida at the time and played for Lute at Iowa
Josh Pastner, assistant at the time at Arizona who also played for Lute at UA.
At the time though Pastner was only 29 years old and had never been a Head Coach before or even the top assistant at UA. Pastner wasn't given serious consideration for the job for those reasons --which I can understand.
