Expected to be the starting QB at Oklahoma in the fall. He was just drafted #9 overall in the MLB draft by the Oakland A's. They claim he doesn't want to pursue a pro baseball career, but I mean I just don't see how you don't go? The kind of money they give out to a #9 draft pick.

What do you do?

The big problem is:
His number 9 slot is $4.7 million
Draft rules state he must sign before going back to school in August.
There is no way that Oakland wants to give him full amount to have it get hurt playing QB.

So either they are going to try to get him to sign significantly under slot or abandon football.
Murray was originally expected to be closer 19th. (MLB had him as 36th prospect.) If Oakland offered him pick 19 money, $3.2 million to sign and still let him play football, that is a huge decision. $1.5 million sacrifice for a season of QB. Also, Oakland could sign a LOT of players over slot for that savings.
At the same time, Murray is shorter than Russell Wilson and Mayfield so his NFL prospects are a stretch.

And you know this how? Please provide a link to the story.
Read what you just quoted again. I didn't say it didn't want to give him full slot. I said they do not want to give him full slot and have him get HURT playing football. Pretty sure there is NOONE who would disagree with me in the entire world.
Also, look at Oakland's signings from last couple years. They pay their first round picks under slot and then sign someone drafted later for over slot.

I was merely asking to see if you were offering up conjecture or you were offering up information that you gleaned from a source. I am not that familiar with the Oakland Athletics draft history.
