Women's sports don't have to draw anyone at all. We still have 85 people on the rowing team and no one watches that.Actually he's from Chicago.
How would the Title IX problems work?
You idiots think women's hockey would draw well also?

UNO, UAH, Alaska and tOSU have all had some hockey success. Why couldn't Iowa?
*Edit: I'll elaborate on 'Why couldn't Iowa?' Why couldn't an Iowa hockey team have similar success as Iowa basketball or Iowa baseball? Iowa basketball is an upper/middle of the pack B1G team that is usually in the hunt to make the NCAA's. Iowa baseball seems to have found the right coach and are looking to build on their success from last year.
Really? The USHL has five franchise teams in Iowa alone. Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Dubuque, Sioux City, and Des Moines. Numerous youth organizations as well. Participation has been good for decades and it continues to grow.
Football will cover women's hockey, just like it covers all other sports.Talking about the cost. Add a men's sport and you need to add same # of scholarships for women's sports - right? The big attendance men's hockey these idiots think will happen will not come close to covering a women's sport also.

So in your estimation Iowa needs to scrap basketball and baseball because they aren't elite programs? Iowa has the $$$ to support it. All they would need is to find the right coach to lead the program like Fran/Heller/KF have with their respective sports.Iowa could have some hockey success. But it is unlikely.
You are hanging your hat on a basketball team that won one NCAA game in 15 years? Or a baseball team that has been pretty darn bad for a long time.

If being consistently successful were a requirement for having a sport, Iowa would have about five sports.Stop putting words into my mouth.
Go ahead, dream that Iowa will be a successful hockey school. But it is unlikely.
Title 9. I suppose we could add some more rowing scholarships but look where that got us. Iowa needs to add women's sports anyways. The first few years of building the program, yes, it would lose money. In the long run the program would be self sustaining.
If your argument is a Top 15 revenue producing athletic department cannot afford this you are going to lose that argument.
