OT: Pollard attempted to schedule Drake for 12th game on ISU schedule

But you can still get a bowl game with 5 wins. Its becoming embarassingly common now.

Im glad the NCAA said no to Drake.
Not common. The only way that happens is if there are not enough 6 win teams to fill all the bowl slots. A couple years ago that was the case, not sure it happened much, if at all, since then.

ISU may be in a pickle trying to schedule that 12th game with an FCS school. I had no idea this was a rule for FCS teams.

FCS schools are permitted, but not required, to play 12 regular-season games in years during which there are 13 Saturdays between Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving. That calendar setup accommodates 12 playing Saturdays and a bye week.

Wow, for some reason I was thinking it was way more common. I know that its only if they can't fill bowls with teams that are 6-6. I am not a fan of the oversatiration of bowl games (yet I watch parts of all of them...) and thought it had been happening once a year.

I did some research and only 8 teams have been invited to a bowl with a sub .500 record. 4 of those with 5 wins.

2016
Hawaii was 6-7
North Texas was 5-7

2015
San Jose St. was 5-7
Nebraska was 5-7
Minnesota was 5-7

2014
Fresno St. was 6-7

2012
Georgia Tech was 6-7

2011
UCLA was 6-7

Since I'm sure some Iowa State fan is bound to mention this Iowa played Drake to start the 1985 season.

Granted, that was 33 years ago and is about as relevant of a talking point as reminiscing about when the Missouri Valley was a good conference in basketball, but it's bound to be brought up.

Honestly, though, that is laughable that Pollard would even consider that in 2018.

1985 Drake still had football scholarships. Was the last year they did.

I'll take your word for it. I was 4. Lol.

My point was about relevance. Your comment lends further credence to my point about two vastly different eras. So thank you.

Yes, and it was 7-0 at half. Ended 58-0.

Pretty sure Drake beat ISU the last time they played...it was around this time, maybe 86 or 87

Play it in Council Bluffs or Omaha. One of the local high school stadiums should be available. Just imagine what the ticket price could be?

This can't be real??

Excited that we will be hosting a representative from the Camping World Bowl in Orlando this weekend. Great to see the early excitement for Cyclone and Sooner Football. Go Big 12!

That'd be like Rosanne Barr standing next to Diane Lane on the red carpet and thanking the press for welcoming the beautiful stars to the show.

In all seriousness, I could see this getting scheduled for Dec 1st, with the home team returning a visit to the other school in the future. I think it would be well-received by the fan bases.

This is a joke right? Drake? How can they not get 6 wins in that conference plus Akron? Especially since according to the Clowns this is the best ISU team ever. This will be hysterical to watch the fallout and whining if they don't make a bowl. Can u imaging Pollard and his nastily voice if they get 5 wins and don't go bowling? And Chris Williams and Randy may be on suicide watch. There will be only so many articles Randy can write for the Rag and times that Chris can talk about on his show how ISU got weather screwed. Seriously Pollard, Drake? Dear God they are pathetic.

I was at Drake when we beat ISU. Would have been ‘84 or ‘85. We also played Iowa in 1985 and kept it close at half. Then Chuck Long and the Hawks scored 35 points in the 3rd quarter on their way to a 58-0 blowout. I imagine it was a nice, relaxed halftime speech by Hayden Fry! I had a great time, though.
