OT: Pollard attempted to schedule Drake for 12th game on ISU schedule

The FWAA vote was not only "legitimate and well respected," it was an official consensus national champion selector as defined by the NCAA from 1954-2013; since the advent of the CFP, their "vote" simply goes to the playoff champ.

In short, Iowa's share of the 1958 national championship is completely legitimate, consensus and official per the NCAA.

You probably knew all that, but since you chose to present the FWAA vote as something less than official and part of ancient history, I thought I'd clear that up for everyone.
This is ironic, because on several occasions I have pointed out -- on this board -- that Iowa has a legitimate claim to having won a national championship.

Maybe someone can clarify this a little bit for me, I was always under the impression that Iowa played against a fully integrated schedule, why LSU did not and therefore Iowa's one loss, one tie record was seen as more impressive. I don't believe the SEC integrated until 1967.

It won the Grantland Rice trophy awarded by the football writers -- which doesn't exist today, but was a legitimate, well respected poll at the time. Unlike the other polls, it wasn't taken until after post-season play. But Iowa didn't win the AP or UPI polls, which are what most people consult when they're looking at who was the champ.

LSU was undefeated that year while Iowa had a loss and a tie, but Iowa looked great in the Rose Bowl while the Bengals were not all that impressive in the Sugar Bowl, despite winning.

So they did win a NC like I said.

ISU vs Nebby in Maryville.. just do it

NWMSU would probably beat them both
I get that it’s fun to trash ISU but you’re admitting that you beat a team that NWMSU would beat, narrowly, at home, with no touchdowns until late in the 4th quarter. You’re certainly welcome to feel ISU is dogcrap, but wouldn’t the narrative be better to say you physically dominated a pretty solid team?

Quiet you

It’s one game in the season, i.e. iowa having to block 2 last seconds field goals to beat UNI then goes on to win the Orange Bowl.

In this thread, you stated "Might have cost Iowa a NC in '58." That suggests that you do not recognize that Iowa indeed was national champ that year. You doubled-down later, stating that most people only recognize the AP and Coaches polls.

So which is it? I'm particularly interested in your opinion, because I can't think of anyone who would be a college football national champion expert more than an Iowa State fan.

Most people do only recognize those polls.

Lone Clone is pretty diplomatic in almost all of his comments and I have yet to come across a post of his that was factually inaccurate.
