Why can’t Ia St compete with Iowa in the 2 big sports?

Historically, recently, pick a time frame.

I’m watching last year’s Big12 title game & it got me thinking, is there any state where the “state” school is better in both sports??

Ohio doesn’t count. A state where they’re both in a P5 conference (yes Big12 counts).

Maybe the state of Florida?? Idk

IA State has won 7 of the last 11 men's basketball games. It seems to swing back and forth there, but Iowa has overall dominated in football.

Would be interesting to take the following and compare: AZ and ASU; UNC and NC State, IA & ISU, OU & Okie State, OR and OSU, UF and FSU.

There are quite a few states with two or more state schools that have been as good or better. They might not have the name of the state in their name.

Michigan/Michigan State … State's Bball team usually better than Wolverines … and football team (until as of late) has been competitive with Michigan ...

2017-18 revenue. Iowa ranked 18th with $137 million. ISU ranked 47th with a little less than $89 million.

Money is not the end all, be all, for college athletics, but it's dam important. Iowa had a $48 million advantage in 17-18.

ISU competes very, very well given their revenue disadvantage.
