If Fran knows someone won't be back, I would love to see him take a stab at Albrecht. Not elite by any means, but would bring experience and stability to the PG spot.
That is odd with him "retiring" Would definitely bring some experience to an otherwise young group, but like you said, a long shotIf Fran knows someone won't be back, I would love to see him take a stab at Albrecht. Not elite by any means, but would bring experience and stability to the PG spot.
He is eligible because he is graduatingIt sounds like Beilein dropped his scholarship. If he restricts where he can go that would be total crap.
This is a case where I think a player should be able to be eligible right away.
Tom Crean was so ahead of his time. Also, Marvin Clark and Javon Bess are transferring from Michigan St. Looks like a little house cleaning to make room for Josh Jackson.
How much?I would take either one of those guys, but assume they will be restricted from transferring within the big ten. I bet one lands in Ames.
I don't think coaches can put any restriction on grad transfers. They have 1 year of eligibility remaining and their current school doesn't offer the grad program they wish to pursue. That is the way the rule works I believe. It sounds like Beilein dropped his scholarship. If he restricts where he can go that would be total crap.

Agreed, Spike is not the answer for us at the PG position. That's all we need is to take a guy in spike who could not finish last season due to injury. No thanks.
If there is an open scholarship, what's the downfall? If he's healthy he would contribute a ton as the only true PG on the roster. If he gets hurt, then he's gone by the end of year and everybody moves on. I'd rather not have to depend on Williams or Bohannon, two barely-recruited projects, to have to play PG with minimal to no experience in the B1G.That's all we need is to take a guy in spike who could not finish last season due to injury. Liked the guy ever since this game. If he wanted to come to Iowa and we got a ride, sign him up.

Right now, he is clearly better than anyone on the roster at that position. Tons of experience, an extremely high Assist:Turnover ratio, and a very respectable 3P% are clearly better than the PG who rarely got minutes over Gesell and Clemmons at the position. Why the downfall? Because he's not very good. Bring in a grad transfer if the guy is clearly better than what we have at the position. Albrecht is not clearly better than what Iowa has on the roster.
Experience is overrated. (See Iowa this year--4 seniors...)
Mental toughness, heart, competitive spirit, guts, and a little talent will consistently beat experience. (See Iowa this year--4 seniors...)
Iowa next season might resemble Wisconsin this season: some ugly early losses but a strong finish.
Agreed, Spike is not the answer for us at the PG position.
Not for just One year. I'd have taken Spike for 3, but no, not for just 1 years.
Christian W will be fine, along with Jordan B, imho
How much?
Spike won't be going to a B1G school according to coach Beilein.
Wow, hypocritical considering who their starting qb was this year
Your observation might be news to Iowa's four seniors.
Oh, ok. Thanks for the heads up, Scout. Shooting 40% from 3 and a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio during his career so far would be a pretty solid reason to bring him here IMO.nice one game wonder, but teams know not to leave him alone and he can't get open by himself.
Spike is the son of one of my first cousins. I suppose I could ask if he has any schools in mind.If Fran knows someone won't be back, I would love to see him take a stab at Albrecht. Not elite by any means, but would bring experience and stability to the PG spot.
Not sure Iowa would have a better option for a 5th year guy. In fact I doubt it.
