If Fran knows someone won't be back, I would love to see him take a stab at Albrecht. Not elite by any means, but would bring experience and stability to the PG spot.

Odd given he retired due to injury and was a favorite of Beilein. I suspect Fran won't pursue him out of respect for Beilein, but his experience would be nice to rent for a year while some guys get acclimated. I suspect he will want to go to a program where he will be guaranteed a starting job and major minutes, which could be here I suppose. I believe Fran has commented on numerous occasions he is not a fan of the graduate transfer. Izzo said the same about transfers until he started benefitting from them.

Yeah I think it's a long shot as well. Was just thinking it would be similar to the Bielfeldt situation with IU. Albrecht said that he would stay at Michigan, but they were out of scholarships.

That is odd with him "retiring" Would definitely bring some experience to an otherwise young group, but like you said, a long shot

It sounds like Beilein dropped his scholarship. If he restricts where he can go that would be total crap.

This is a case where I think a player should be able to be eligible right away.

I would take either one of those guys, but assume they will be restricted from transferring within the big ten. I bet one lands in Ames.

I don't think coaches can put any restriction on grad transfers. They have 1 year of eligibility remaining and their current school doesn't offer the grad program they wish to pursue. That is the way the rule works I believe.

That's all we need is to take a guy in spike who could not finish last season due to injury. No thanks.

If there is an open scholarship, what's the downfall? If he's healthy he would contribute a ton as the only true PG on the roster. If he gets hurt, then he's gone by the end of year and everybody moves on. I'd rather not have to depend on Williams or Bohannon, two barely-recruited projects, to have to play PG with minimal to no experience in the B1G.

I think the assumption has to be made that it's Williams' job by default and I don't see anyone competing with him. If someone leaves, will Fran give a scholarship to Baer or pursue another guard and if so, a SG or PG or best available? Long-term, I think Williams will make a better 2 than 1, but maybe Fran sees Williams as Devyn Marble 2.0. It would be nice to have another experienced player to share the load / mentor Williams, but that is highly unlikely barring an exodus of 2-3 players and Fran landing guys late in the process.

He's still not sure he can play next season and will have to wait and see how he feels after the summer. While he'd like to play next year, it's far from certain he will be able to.

Liked the guy ever since this game. If he wanted to come to Iowa and we got a ride, sign him up.

Why the downfall? Because he's not very good. Bring in a grad transfer if the guy is clearly better than what we have at the position. Albrecht is not clearly better than what Iowa has on the roster.

I don't think anyone is saying that "Albrecht" is the answer, but a player like him, with more experience and ideally not dealing with a pre-existing injury, might be a good idea. We have 0 pg experience returning next year, which puts a lot of pressure on Williams to deliver. He tweaks an ankle or strains a knee and we are probably looking at a back court of Bohannon and Moss or Pemsl as our Aldi version of Denzel Valentine.

Anyone recall the history on the Marlon Stewart kid from North Scott? He is leaving Creighton. I seem to remember him as fairly athletic, but not much in the memory bank to draw from here.

Experience is overrated. (See Iowa this year--4 seniors...)

Mental toughness, heart, competitive spirit, guts, and a little talent will consistently beat experience. (See Iowa this year--4 seniors...)

Iowa next season might resemble Wisconsin this season: some ugly early losses but a strong finish.

Right now, he is clearly better than anyone on the roster at that position. Tons of experience, an extremely high Assist:Turnover ratio, and a very respectable 3P% are clearly better than the PG who rarely got minutes over Gesell and Clemmons at the position.

That would be a false statement. (see the majority of college basketball every year)

Your observation might be news to Iowa's four seniors.

Not for just One year. I'd have taken Spike for 3, but no, not for just 1 years.
Christian W will be fine, along with Jordan B, imho

If Spike was healthy, I believe he might be a good option. But, if that was the case, he wouldn't have the year remaining.

If I were Fran and I had to pick, I'd rather take the Neal kid from New Mexico over Spike.

In the end.....neither will be in Iowa City.

Wow, hypocritical considering who their starting qb was this year

sort of, but it's a conference rule not a Beilein rule. And Beilein isn't the one who took Rudock, Harbaugh is. Also a slight difference in that Ferentz knew they didn't have a football game scheduled against Michigan where as Beilein 100% knows they will have a game against every team in the conference.

nice one game wonder, but teams know not to leave him alone and he can't get open by himself.
Oh, ok. Thanks for the heads up, Scout. Shooting 40% from 3 and a 3 to 1 assist to turnover ratio during his career so far would be a pretty solid reason to bring him here IMO.

Wherever he ends up I hope his hips hold up and he has a very successful final year.

Spike is the son of one of my first cousins. I suppose I could ask if he has any schools in mind.
