HAWKEYES vs buckwheats GRADES

If Drake is out this week they need to get Peterson on full feed and let him go next Friday. He's light years better than Hernandez and would definitely keep it to a decision and possibly steal it at the end. Cruz has earned the spot in my eyes, especially due to the fact that Peterson is pulling a ton of weight to make 125.

Gabe's opponent Rotozke is no slouch. He beat Gabe back in 2021 in Freestyle and has had pretty good freestyle success. Him and his brother at Indiana are both dangerous pinners, and he had 16 pins last season. Gabe wrestled him smart and carefully. It was obvious Gabe tried to avoid tie-up situations and scrambles as that's where Rotozke could catch him in a big move.
Really a mental mistake by Rotozke in OT.
He probably had the advantage in rideouts if it had gotten to that.

I actually think it was a savvy move by Arnold. It looked like he kept that lead leg over extended to bait Rogotzke to open up and go for it. That’s what I saw.

Rotozke hadn't really initiated any offense the entire match.

Doing so at that point was just dumb.

I agree the Petersen to 125 experiment needs to end. He isn't coming close to beating Davis. He maybe could hold to a regular decision if he had been working on being a good 133 pounder all season.

Whoooooo. So annoying.
I think the Cass vs Kerk match with the meet on the line, fans drowned it out and never heard them that night. That was a big win for Keuter yesterday, knew his work would payoff, maybe if the meet was on the line it would have been drowned out.

What about the ref?? He was freaking TERRIBLE!!! Maybe give him a 40 at best!! Honest question take out Mendez how many true shots did fosu take??
Brands kept referring to him as Ohio and that he knew he was from Ohio. Like Brands was telling Ohio, there was no difference in the neutral action in Calis match as Teemers but took Ohio much longer to see it as a stalling call. I was okay with the quick calls on Teemer til he let it go in the very next match.

I was thinking about it the entire match. Ref was so one sided, unbelievable...

Actually I think the Woooing may go back to the Sam Stoll years. My understanding is the WOO is associated with WWE's Ric Flair. Very annoying, but thankfully it seems to be dying out as fewer folks seem to be doing it each meet.
Definitely goes back a few years. The first Sam Stoll match that came up when I googled it has people doing the WOO starting in the second period. . This looks like it must have been Stoll's senior year. Not sure if it happened earlier.

My general recollection is that it started during a time of not much action during Hwt matches. The arena tended get pretty quiet if the outcome was already determined. Kind of grew form there. Of course, I may be way off too.

Yes, it definitely started with Sam and continued with Cass...

I pray that some day the idiots will stop making those stupid noises during the heavyweight matches.

DOUBLE AMEN!
Love Gabe and years past I have had an easy favorite this year I am struggling with that. Teemer, Cali, Buch, Ayala, Gabe and Buch all have some serious skills but if I had to choose one it would be Cali, Buch is a close 2nd. Mainly due to those are the 2 most consistent wrestlers we have. Crazy thing is we could easily have 5 finalists with Ayala, Parco, Tbird, Cali and Buch. Still probably not enough to derail Karl and his kronies but surely enough to get 2nd.
It's definitely Caliendo then Buchanon for me. Love watching Teemer, but I could do without the showboating. Love some of the others mentioned as well, but those two are my favs this year.

Why do they do that? It’s super annoying

I haven't noticed just watching on my phone. What noise are they making? My old ears coupled with phone speakers aren't picking it up.
The Ric Flair WHOOOOOO! I hate it!
Why are they doing it?
It all started one night when Stoll was injured and we put our back-up (I forget his name, I think the kid from Dubuque) [Costello] out against the very highly ranked guy from Lehigh (I forget his name too. Getting old sucks )[Jordan Wood]. The fans were making fun of this physical specimen beating up on a back-up.
I hate this more than anything, and I wish it would stop! Most of the people doing it have no idea why, it's just "tradition" now. A tradition that should die, and that makes our fanbase look foolish.

[Edited to add the names west2east gave me below]

Jordan Wood and he wrestled Costello

Really like Gabe Arnold and his motor. My personal favorite of this squad. I think he's doing what's being asked of him for the good of the team. He's giving it his all at a weight that his body is not suited for. 174 is where he belongs.
Can he not beat Kennedy? If he can, he needs to go 74 and Ferrari needs to go 84.

Doubtful there is any chance of that happening this late in the season. 1 - Assuming Gabe has been weighing in at a full 184, it would take him probably four weeks per the NCAA weight decent plan rules to make it to 174. So he wouldn't likely even be eligible to wrestle 174 until Big10 tourney. 2 - Gabe would need to cut to 174 (a difficult cut, per Gabe) and then wrestle off against Kennedy (gotta be at the same weight to have a fair wrestle-off). Then, if he loses to Kennedy at 174, he's gotta put the weight back on to be a full size 184 again to retake his 184 spot from Ferrari. 3 - Making a change this late in the season loses all of the head-to-head seeding criteria for Big10 and NCAA seeding.
