OT: Tennessee or Nebby Should Hire Matt Campbell Before...

One of my buddies has gotten to know Campbell pretty well in Ames. He says the ISU staff absolutely loves Ames and they know what they have. They don't plan to leave according him. Their eyes are on Ohio State when Urban calls it quits.

Just what I heard from a guy who knows Campbell. Don't shoot me.

That is just classic thinking among all you tavern hawks ( you hawk fans that did not even graduate from the place and yet are delusional fanatics ). Just because you spend a lot of money on coaches and facilities, you think that should somehow guarantee you some position in college football. From where I sit, all it has gotten you is consistent mediocrity. Not exactly something to write home to mom about, oh but I forgot you did not graduate from the place and may have difficulty writing that letter in the first place :)

If your writing skills are the measuring stick, most will probably do all right.

When you refer to "tavern hawks," you mean Rocky Mountain Hawk.

I think Iowa State deserves a ton of credit for the impressive streak they are on and the good football they've been playing as of late. However, a lot of you johnny-come-lately Cyclone fans suddenly crawling out of the woodwork need to pump the brakes a bit on this ridiculous notion that Iowa State football is now the darlings of college football. From 2013-2016, Iowa State won a total of 11 football games, which mathematically works out to fewer than 3 games a year.

Again, congratulations to the Cyclone football team for an impressive 4-game win streak that includes the likes of TCU and Oklahoma. However, keep in mind (now that so many of you are deciding to crawl out of the woodwork and do a little chest thumping) that while you are flappin' your gums about how great Iowa State football is and just how mediocre Iowa is:

1) The last time Iowa State finished a season above .500 was 2009. They went 7-6. So a little perspective here.

2) Cyclone fans should be excited about their team's current 4-game win streak and the positive direction the football program seems to be heading, no doubt. However, the season is not over and no one knows what next year will bring. Just saying...

3) Iowa football under Kirk Ferentz has been wildly unpredictable, without question, and often times "mediocre." However, Kirk Ferentz still has on his resume an Orange Bowl win, five finishes in the Top 10, COY honors, a couple shared conference titles, and New Year's bowl wins over 3 SEC opponents (Florida, LSU, and South Carolina). So, yes, while ISU is doing pretty darn good right now over these last four games, again, how about a little perspective here?

I would caution Matt Campbell to look at what Jim McElwain has accomplished at Florida. McElwain was a hot coaching prospect at CSU and made the leap into the SEC; Bielema made the leap into the SEC; and once upon a time Butch Jones was a hot prospect and jumped into the SEC. What all of these guys have in common? They coach at schools who usually thrive when the like of Bama are down. Every team in the SEC is chasing Nick Saban and the Tide. Campbell would be smart to ride out the building process in Ames. If he can build something in Ames then he will be golden.

I read somewhere that McElwain has a $12M buyout. I’m sure he’s happy he jumped from CSU and I’m sure he could get another job like that one.

LOL. I'm not saying I agree or disagree; I just thought I could live another 100 years and not ever witness the suggestion that the move from Iowa State head football coach to Nebraska head football coach might not be a move upward.
How long did you think you could live without seeing Nebraska lose at home to Northern Illinois?

Nebraska is a better job, of course. That doesn't mean it's a more desirable place to coach now, though.

We just played 6 weeks ago in their house! We all saw who won. Smh. Maybe I’m in the minority but if two teams are fairly equal the best way to decide who’s better is to play. And we did that.

The better team doesn’t always win. Right now ISU is playing at a higher level than Iowa. ISU has drastically improved while Iowa has kind of remained stagnant. It’s not even debatable.

The 1996 Florida Gators lost to FSU in the regular season. Those same Florida Gators played FSU in the National Championship that same year and beat the brakes off FSU.

Man your posts suck. And I’m not just saying that cuz you called me out.

You HAVE to work on shortening them. It’s just boring drivel coming out of you put on a message board.

Sorry, from now on I will strive for your level of greatness on here.

Pssst---If reading more than one paragraph causes you significant brain cramps, just don't read my posts. I couldn't care less if you don't. Honestly, just skip over them.

Let me, though, give you credit for correctly using drivel and not "dribble."

Be tolerant. Not all posters can be as intelligent and mature ad you and I. Both teams have their share of "other kinds."

This was a much better post. Shorter & to the point. Think of me as your life coach. I’m going make you new & improved by the end of the year! Who knows, maybe you’ll even be able to find a date in the future.

Thanks for the tip. You're right. It's a work in progress for me.

He and I got into a pissing match one day and since then he likes to comment about the posts I make that go a little long. And I agree some of them do. Like I said to him, I don't always have time to make them shorter.

LMAO. I do appreciate it! I will take all the sage advice I can get, especially when it comes to women. After being divorced, my luck with women has gotten worse. Sane, single, and good looking are hard to find these days.

Ha ha, thanks for the like on the above post. I’ll back off from now on. Glad you’re getting my sense of humor & how this board is pure entertainment for me.

Congrats! And I mean that for real. Twenty years is a big deal.
Thanks, she’s great. And don’t tell anybody but the big reason why I talk sh*t (sometimes unreasonable or exaggerated posts) to every opposing fan on here is because I’m so freaking sick of every team’s fans coming on here & trashing the Hawks. I’m my making it my life long goal to do nothing but trash their teams back. Most of it is deserved though. And sometimes I have to go over the top with statements to get through to the other team’s yahoos on here.

Campbell is in a good position at ISU, the stage is being set for something special. I think the AD knows he struck gold and they will do what they can to keep him. The two traditional Big 12 powers have new coaches this year, TCU and Okie State are solid programs with quality coaches, WV is a step below TCU and Okie State, Bill Snyder is at the twilight of his career while Texas Tech, Baylor and Kansas are mediocre. Campbell is winning with guys he inherited, he ought to do better with his recruits. I think he is the type of coach who wants to establish his program. Non of the other jobs mentioned are in the top 3 or 4 in their conferences and are in conferences with several established successful coaches. There is something to be said about building a program, Iowa fans certainly can relate to that, thank you Hayden Fry.

Campbell can do better than Tennessee or Nebraska.

He needs to hold out for upper crust job.

Iowa State will give him a massive bump after season.
