Last weekend, I approached Gary Barnett in a Carefree, AZ restaurant and spoke with him for 5-10 minutes about football. He is an extremely nice guy, and he loves Iowa and Kirk. It was fun talking football with him as he said that he and Kirk became good friends recruiting St. Louis when he was an assistant at CU and Kirk was an assistant for Hayden. As far as encounters with famous/semi-famous sports people go, mine with Gary Barnett was probably the most enjoyable I have had.

Afterward, I got to thinking about his bad exit from Colorado due to poor performance on and off of the field, and I saw that CU has not had a winning record since Barnett's final season in Boulder. Obviously, they were a prominent program under Bill McCartney, continued to be good under Neuheisel, and had some good moments under Barnett. They are now a horrible program.

Does anybody know the reasons?
