O'Toole Over Haines

Do I think they could get 10 AAs…. Maybe.

In conclusion yes 10 AAs is very possible but I would be a little concerned about Lilly, Davis and even Barr.
Lilledahl has had a couple close wins against good but not elite guys. At this point he's probably better at free than folk, but he's also gonna be tough to beat. Has a real good shot to AA and could possibly make a deep run at NCAAs.

Davis also very capable to AA, but also could take a couple close losses. Agree he is likely the biggest question mark in this respect.

Right now Barr looks the part of an AA. As of now it appears there are only a handful of guys that have a realistic shot of beating him.

Haines is very good once he can get in a scramble or something, but he is far from a takedown machine vs guys like o Toole.
Yeah, and no one else in college wrestling is a TD machine against O'Toole, either. Or against Haines, for that matter. LOL.

I bet our adversaries said some shit like that about Gable’s Hawks back in the day. I don’t want excuses I want results. And as long as we’re getting out-recruited like this PSU and - based on the 2025 class - OKIE will be hard to beat.
I can get the steroid whine, but stalling? Stalling? I think they lost three total individual bouts in matches and Bartlett lost to Mendez in the nwca all star classic but I haven't seen much stalling this year.

Didn’t LL also have a couple of close wins against not so good guys?? I get he is a monster in freestyle but I don’t c it in folk.. he’s getting taken down n looks beatable against non elites.. 125 is a very chaotic weight.. he’s my pick rn for PSU’s least likely to AA until we see how he looks against top 5 guys.

He's a freshman so we will have to see.

I just can’t stand that kind of talk. We’re getting beat just like we used to beat others…with outstanding talent, outstanding conditioning and great coaching. And of course the biggie the past several years has been recruiting. We’ve got to keep/start closing the gap.

History has shown their guys typically meet or exceed expectations.

I agree, he is the real deal. How many points has PSU got out of 125 over the last decade though? It has been their "hole" for a long time and I hope that curse continues for them.

Since Cael took over in 9/10, Penn State has scored 88.5 points at 125 with 71.5 coming from Megaludis. By far, their worst weight.

In comparison, 125 is by far Iowa's best weight with 252 points since 9/10. Lee leading the way with 89.5 points.

SL will forever be intertwined in Caels story. At least a chapter, maybe more. By far the biggest miss. Home State generational talent choosing Cael’s biggest rival. The funny thing is Cael could continue to rattle off any number of consecutive titles, break Gable’s records, but the ghost of SL will always be present.

I’m not sure Hawk fans FULLY comprehend the impact and power SL has on Iowa wrestling and the history of NCAA wrestling in the time of Cael Sanderson.

I think it's more likely LL is a finalist than not finishing on the podium.

That's the only way. unfortunately for other teams PSU's recent success is similar to Gable's. Legendary wrestler who can actually coach in a wrestling friendly area. And PSU basically gave Sanderson a clean slate to work with.

But, he really isn't wrong. It's all about perspective. Dominance over a long period of time CAN get boring. This can be especially true when it is a team you are NOT a fan of.

Now, with that said, is the PSU wrestling style itself boring? Absolutely not. But, it helps when you have a bunch of Michael Jordans and Steph Currys in your line up...
I do wish somebody, OkieSt, Iowa, Cornell, tOSU would step up and challenge them. At least a little.

How? I mean that with no snark. Right now, there is NO ROOM for another team to truly challenge. There isn't room for 2 teams at the level PSU is currently sitting. For someone to truly challenge they are going to have to start beating PSU in recruiting guys they are actually going after, which simply isn't happening any time soon, AND be able to get maximum NCAA Tourney performance while not getting beat in the transfer portal either.

This is why I go after the bickering Iowa fan contingent. Iowa isn't doing nearly as badly as the "whiners" here like to portray. It is truly just that PSU is doing that remarkably well in every single facet...

No coach with Cael’s success (currently 11 team and 34 individual titles, including two 4-timers and four 3-timers) and Gable’s record in sight is haunted by a lost recruit. If I recall, Spencer committed to Iowa before his senior year of HS, knowing Suriano was at PSU. What I do concede is that Spencer is the only reason the Lion’s current team title streak isn’t 8, and he’s our absolute best shot at Olympic 57kg gold in LA.

All very true, the nature of the sport allows this level of domination if the pieces are in place, just like it was for Iowa in 1975. Once that starts, it's impossible to stop it you just need for the thing to run it's course. I mean when Iowa started their run in 1975 did anyone think Gable and the program would have the level of success they had until Sanderson started at PSU?
