Our backcourt is pathetic...

Every other coach would have played him 2-10 minutes a game getting him some experience. Why do you think he played against tcu and auburn (athletic teams) but wasn’t trusted in the big ten?
He was really bad. You're playing to win in the B1G not afford experience. Tonight had nothing to do with the opponent. The reason he played in the first half tonight was because of Fran's 2 foul rule with Perkins and Connor so he was short 2 guards. Well, that and Ulis was bad again. Otherwise he probably doesn't see the floor.

Really? How would you know. You never saw him. Here’s the thing he’s either that bad and fran should run him off by not playing him or uhlis and Perkins are amazing.

The world doesn’t work like that. Ulis isnt a great player, but Bowen wasn't ready for B1G level basketball as a freshman. He looked lost mentally and weak physically. If he looks anything like that next year then it might be time for new digs.

Jonesy - Best of luck with the ISU women's game (totally sincere, I'm perhaps one of those rare Hawk fans that actually root for all IA teams) this Saturday and beyond. Your daughter is a heck of a ballplayer. Go Clones - unless they're playing IA that is.

Ulis definitely seems a lost cause to me. Correcting the OP, Ulis had 2 points near the end so he was not 0-4 (1-5). Perkins has a big upside to me. I think he will be better next year. Maybe not the answer we need but better and a help to the team. Bowen is unproven and will get criticized a lot next year by whiny fans.

This loss is on Kris Murray, imo. By the end of the game you could tell he just didn’t want the ball or the pressure that came with it. They would pass it in to him and he’d immediately kick it out. He looked bad on defense and just had no game. If I was Kris Murray I’d come back for one more year after getting a sports psychologist to work with me and work on becoming dominant. I doubt he will do that and if he did I’m not sure I’m confident that he would change. So much talent in that guy that seems untapped.

Again, how could you know that? If he were truly that bad he wouldn’t have played that well against tcu or why would he play today.

The most important thing Kris can do is find a right hand. Teams that figured that out took him away.

He didn't have enough time to be bad.

Bowen is the only guard on the team with a legitimate handle to get in the lane and put pressure on a defense. He flashed that again today.

His ceiling is way above the other guards on this team.

I understand why he didn't play this year but its a similar reason to why Kris wasn't allowed to play two years ago.

And Keegan three years ago but PMac saw time ahead of him as a freshman. Not sure what Fran was thinking. Wish we saw Keegan, Luka, and Weezy more than we did.

‘yeah, so? I’m soft as **** as well. Like charming soft and 25 years older, so I would hope so. It doesn’t change the fact that this team has zero fortitude whatsoever. They have failed to show up forever when it matters.

Or they arent that good.

Cmac is not tough, he just acts tough because he can get away with it being the coaches son. Rebraca is the sole tough dude we have on the roster.
Cmac is a limited skills ground lubbing fighter, he’s the 1st guy to get into scrapes, hes an avg at best olayers, but hes not afraid of bodying up any size player, he’s really a fighter.

Ogundele has showed that he’s not afraid of contact, it’s not his fault PMac plays ahead of him

Why would he do that if Bowen hasn't progressed? I'd hand the reigns to Dix before Bowen right now.
Handing the reigns to dix is no different than the experiment of starting this season with perkins at the 1. Dix is NOT a pg just like perkins isn’t a pg. Bowen is the closest thing to a true pg we’ve ever seen in Frans time at iowa. A guy that can put it on the floor and get to the rack, hit the pull up, and shoot from deep. And yes, we saw enough of those things this year to make that conclusion. His decision making passing the ball will come when the game slows down, and he should add some strength this off season

Iowa has not had a Point Guard that makes life difficult for the opposing defense since Dean Oliver. Since him, Iowa has not had a PG who can create offense for himself or his teammates off the dribble (not even Jeff Horner).

Not having a PG who can get to the rim and draw double teams is like a football team having an immobile QB (we know that all too well). It makes you very easy to guard.

Only an idiot would recommend him to come back given his age and that he is a lock to go in first round. It’s a coaches job to unleash the full potential of his players, FM is not that guy.

Next year’s best option for PG isn’t on campus yet. Harding is going to have the biggest impact on the team by next season’s end of all the true freshmen.

He may very well go first round but he is no lock. I wish he was. I stick by my assessment, although I admit I’m no NBA scout. And you aren’t either.

Uhhh . . . You seen Ulis in year 3 bro??

Fran does NOT win. His temper tantrums are used against him in recruiting. He favors his kids. Fran does NOT win.

It’s been 13 years. I would force him to take a big cut next time his contract is up. Iowa athletics is run like a mom and pop charity so tell football and basketball “ if you can do better, please leave”.

Auburns team could probably play on some D1 football teams. They are grown dudes. Our guys need 4 years to grow from boys to men. Wish we could recruit out of that full grown man bucket some of these teams do.
Look simply at Penn State. Great guard play led by Jalen Pickett and Seth Lunde and long shooters Myles Dread and Andrew Funk. Add big man Kebba Njie along with a strong defense and you have a winner. Are they a blue chip team? No but Shrewsberry has what Iowa could have. None were 5 star recruits but they all have something we don't. A mental physical toughness that thrives on defense and great guard play. Just sayin.

We may be seeing Kris Murray in the G League, just as Garza has spent some time there too.
