Any you old guys remember the Iowa Stars hockey team in Waterloo? They were only around for the 69-70 season and played in the Hippodrome.

Seemed like an odd place at the time to put a CHL team.

The Waterloo Hawks were founded as a National Basketball League team in 1948. When the NBA merged with the NBL after the 1948-49 season, the Waterloo Hawks became an NBA franchise. They played in the NBA for the 1949-50 season. The NBA contracted after that season and the Waterloo Hawks were one of the teams eliminated. They also played in the Hippodrome in Waterloo, which is just fricking crazy.

They remain the only professional team from Iowa in any of the big 4 sports leagues.
