Anybody know someone or have dealings with someone in a biker gang? Driving through Ohio on my way back from Boston a few weeks ago, we were passed on the interstate by 12 Hell’s Angels riding in formation. I haven’t seen a Hell’s Angel out and about before. ‘The Chosen Few’ and ‘The Sons of Silence’ are the only ones I see sporadically in the Cedar Rapids area.

we were trouble in 1983

went to a dive bar for a buddies 21st birthday after it turned midnight, the nice bars wouldn’t serve him. The hells angels were all over in the place but didn’t bother us. Tried to go to the bathroom and there were two blocking the door. They politely, but firmly, let me know or that I would not be using the bathroom. So we went to another dive bar close by and it was full of Bandidos so we went home. Not a negative experience but we weren’t jackasses around them and removed ourselves before the booze took over. Talked to a cop friend about it and found out that a tattoo artist that both of the biker gangs go to was in town and that’s why they were there.

They are alive and well. Many smaller chapters throughout Iowa as well.

It was probably about a year ago, but there were a couple of Hell’s Angels in front of the Casey’s by the Coralville mall. Probably had just stopped off the interstate.

I used to go to the Hog Wild Rodeo which was a big biker party. People came in from across the Midwest. The Circle of Pride MC ran it pretty peacefully for a number of years. But, the Sons of Silence moved in on it. They started serving as ‘security’ and it began to get more violent and crazy.
Eventually, things were getting out of control and the plug got pulled on it. Not exactly sure by who. They started another event on the same weekend, and had to explicitly state ‘no motorcycles, no colors’. It has largely fizzled out I believe. I saw some crazy things there.

there is a gang up at the lakes (I live in spencer) that my buddy, who owns a harley, told me are some bad asses. had a short interaction with one of them once and he was not very nice. the el (insert name)

Exactly my thoughts as well.
I arrested the girlfriend of head of our local affiliate of the SOS for OWI. I also wrote his son a citation in his driveway. Both times I knew he was armed and treated him with respect and was fair with him and his family. He was irate, but understood I had a job to do and wasn't throwing the book at them and he allowed me to do my job without interfering. I think if I would have been scared to do my job he would have lost respect for me and things could have went downhill.

I have a Vespa and wear my scouts vest and a little cowboy hat when I ride it. I look pretty cool.

Although sometimes people shout, “Where’s your twin? You guys were awesome in the Guinness Book of Records.” Whatever that means. But I assume it’s something cool.

Yeah. I 100 % agree with how you handled those situations. Non-biker gang related but I still have suspicions that one of my former clients was tied up in MOB out of Chicago. You know when they say don't ask too many questions....;)

When I was 14 we accidentally took a family vacation to SD at the same time as Sturgis. Went to a pizza joint and the host said we could wait 1-1.5 hours or we could sit out back at open picnic tables. We picked the picnic tables and had pizza with the Hell's Angels from New Jersey.

My dad started chatting them up. Asked what they did here, etc. Mostly boozing it up and partying. The guy said he was going to get a tattoo somewhere, may be his face, and starts laughing (he was already totally covered). Asked him if they get into fights with rival gangs. Said there was a general rule of no guns and they were on neutral ground, but they didn't hang out at the same places. Most everyone was there to have fun and not do business. Said there were always a few guys who ran their mouth off and knife fights happened but he said it wasn't bad considering several hundred thousand drunk people were getting together.

Overall, the guys were actually pretty nice. Again, I think it's a respect thing. Appear to be baseline some pretty rough dudes.

What is in formation mean? Is that like the flying V?

Alpha Steros or however it’s spelled.

When I was in 5th or 6th grade, Brooks & Dunn (IIRC) played the Dubuque County Fair, and the Hell's Angels were there in colors watching from the non-paying edge of where the concert was held (near the 4H Chicken & Rabbit show barn if you know the fair). My friend and I were also in that area, and both wearing Wilwert H-D shirts, as we lived nearby Wilwert's old location, and hung out there.

We were standing against the chain-link fence, watching the concert, near their group, when two of them walked over to us and said, "Hey lil brothers, wanna see the concert closer?" and then proceeded to pick us both up and throw us over the 6' fence, and we skidded down the gravel and grass landing area... and got to see the concert closer.

I was in the Twin Peaks in Waco about three days before the shootout happened.

Known plenty of them over the years, pretty good guys for the most part. Just don't disrespect them and keep your hands of their old ladies, unless of course you have a death wish.

I was in Des Moines and stopped at pharmacy so my wife could get some kind of potion. Anyway, biker stopped next to us. He had an MC patch on his back and I looked them up at one time and they are one of the outlaw clubs.

We chatted for probably 15 minutes about bikes. I rebuilt a couple of bikes with my dad during high school and college and he did a lot of work for his club. Seemed like a really cool guy. I didn’t bring anything up about his club otherwise as it wasn’t my business.

Incidentally, he was also waiting on his wife who was riding a bike as well. She also was in the pharmacy getting some kind of potion.

One thing I've learned is if you treat them with respect and you're aren't a overbearing asshole, they will return the respect and we both understand we have jobs we are doing.
What is the job they are doing?
BTW, the Pagans are the local motorcycle "club" in Western PA.

Yes, I know some members of MC's, and we're not talking Wild Hogs.

I have a Harley, but I'm not into the culture. Just having the bike, and acting like I know what I'm doing, gets a small measure of respect.
