Outrebound Iowa and you win

Someone mentioned that Iowa played good defense. Finishing a defensive effort involves rebounding and second chance points killed us last night.

You rebound, you win. Or compete, at the very least.
This game was not a good indicator of what may happen when conference play begins. Too many offensive rebounds given up.

I've been harping on this since preseason. We give up way too many offensive rebounds. Dembele is a liability on both ends. His primary responsibilities should be defense & rebounding. Not good at either. Replace him Fran!

I was going to mention how many shots we missed being a factor….but they missed 35 and we missed 36. Plenty of rebound opportunities.

After 15 years of the same product on the court, I am willing to bet this will be a good indicator what may happen when conference play begins - maybe not all the time, but I'm fairly certain this will not be the last time we see Iowa get embarrassed on the defensive boards this season.

In the final few minutes it seemed USU gifted Iowa a quick errant 3-ball BUT ... blonde headband boy ever-so-casually rebounded the carom while merely standing there. No Hawkeye was even close to contesting the rebound. Maddening!

Yeah I saw HawkBoiler on BlackHeart Gold Pants article finding the silver lining in the fact we forced a lot of turnovers and held Utah St. to lowest points per possession...but if you don't rebound the opponent missed shots, then holding a team to low points per possession doesn't matter. The turnovers we forced balanced out by our own turnovers. It was a solid loss, not a toss up. Payton was awful shooting but we got exceptionally good game out of Harding. Dix being hurt and a shell of himself is a valid excuse though.
