Am I being a homer thinking MSU can win the B1G this year?

Can you beat Penn St on the road? After looking briefly at MSU's and Penn State's schedules it looks like Penn St.s is a little easier. I have no clue how many players they lost....

Wouldn't this be an "inside" view of MSU?

I think their entire athletic department should shut down for a few years.

They shouldn’t exist. Hopefully this year will be the last.

I have made yet another top notch contribution to a thread on hawkeyereport.com

I don't study Iowa's opponents until I pick up the latest Phil Steele. But 19 starters back is a great place to start from a team that was pretty good last year.

Has anything been updated that I've missed on what might happen to them as an athletic department? I realize it's the NCAA and their investigations last long enough for the investigators to find all the good restaurants in East Lansing, but haven't heard anything lately.

Outside perspective of MSU athletics and football program has nothing to do with on field performance unfortunately.........

Not to go off on a tangent, but the NCAA isn't going to do anything to Michigan State until Izzo retires.

MSU should be solid. I have seen nothing from them that suggests they’re a championship caliber team next year

MSU and Iowa are very similar teams other than MSU doesn’t seem to lose games they should win at least once- twice a year. Very consistent physical team. A lot of guys back. Should be a solid year. Wouldn’t bet money on them being in Indy but wouldnt be totally shocked if they were there at the end of the year

Both MSU and Iowa have beaten Urban...UM and Wisky can’t say that!

I see a lot of publications have Iowa in the 40s pre season

As an outsider, I dont know how the football program has had so many sexual crime allegations combined with nassar and your AD has been allowed to continue. My guess. This is Dantonios last year. That's not a haha your some MSU dude who came to an Iowa board so I am going to flip you $hit. I seriously dont know how in 2018, with psu, Baylor, etc how the hell the entire AD hasnt been suspended pending further investigation.

MSU could win the East but I think OSU will. I would welcome a rematch with MSU in Indy.

It may be possible - but what happened last year at Ohio State? That was arguably even worse than Iowa's loss at Wisconsin. That had to mark arguably the strangest 2 game sequence in college football ... Iowa thumping Ohio State one week and then Ohio State thumping MSU the next week. Strange stuff ....

I definitely think they can. Where are the Michigan and OSU games?
Both those game are at East Lansing.

Also, their cross-division match-ups are vs Northwestern (early in the season), Purdue, and @ Nebraska (later in the season). As those games go - they miss Iowa and Wisconsin - and they catch Northwestern at the right time of the season.

Given MSU's returning experience ... they certainly have a shot.

East Lansing

MSUs road games to be concerned about are PSU and Neb

I think OSU is actually rated too high going into the season. Their QB is an unknown and they lost almost their entire starting defense. I think it will come down to MSU or Michigan for the East. I don't see anyone challenging Wisconsin in the west.

College football is weird in week to week variance. MSU shot their wad vs PSU the previous week and OSU was embarrassed. Coming back to Columbus, OSU was very focused and motivated. They jumped on us early and we just crumbled. We couldn’t match up in the trenches we were very young.

Crazy that MSU beat Iowa who beat OSU and we beat PSU who should’ve beat OSU.

Absolutely ... since the players are "students of the game" and are even improving as the season progresses ... Iowa almost beat PSU while giving up a ton of yardage on the ground. Furthermore, since many players are still rather "young guys" ... when they're focused the sky can really be the limit ... however, if they have a lapse in a game ... they can look outright awful. One of our young guys at OT played a role in costing us the game against Northwestern ... and yet he was outright dominant against Ohio State.

MSU always reminds me of Iowa ... Two similar coaches ... and styles ... I think for the most part MSU has established itself where any given season it can compete for the Big 10 ...

Ball control offense and stingy D. Seems like since Dantonio has been at MSU, MSU has generally had the better skill position players on offense.
