Overtime with Jack Wagner

Going off these interviews, it looks like Iowa is in on both of the top 125 recruits in Iowa, which is comforting.

We really need someone in this class to wrestle 125 to back up Gilman

If you haven't seen Jack wrestle you should. He's a tough SOB. Definitely not a room guy (hate when people say "room guy" but I'm trying to make a quick point) and will make a team very happy at 125 for years to come.

Pretty sure he beat a Beast of the East runner-up down at Disney. He has a lot of quality wins for sure.

Laux is a very good backup for Gilman IMO. Regardless, Wagner would be great to have as well.

I am fairly positive Laux is a year behind Gilman. Laux was a "greyshirt" while Clark and Gilman were redshirting. Then he took his redshirt while they were battling it out for the starting position their freshmen year.

Very possible, but the HawkeyeSports.com roster shows both Gilman and Laux as sophomores (for last season). I wonder if that's taking into effect the grayshirt thing... (do they even have grayshirts in wrestling?)

You can in any sport. Essentially that is what the guys who go to OTC are. Basically the athlete is a part time student so their "clock" doesn't start. Once they start going to school full time then it starts. Looking at Laux's bio, it appears he redshirted during the 2013-2014 season and competed unattached. Then last year he was a RS Freshman. Not sure why he is listed as a soph.

That's just waiting a year to begin college.

True grey shirting is only a football thing.

The only difference is in football it's done for one semester. Wrestling it is done for a whole year. So yes, I guess is only a football thing..
