Paper road maps

I sold a guy in SW Iowa a load of hay. A truck showed up at the Tama County farm early this morning to load it out. When I gave the driver the address of the buyer he pulled out a paper map to get his directions right. It occured to me that I had not seen a paper map for quite some time. How may still use them? Where do they get them nowdays? Are kids learning map reading skills anymore?

I recall when back in the day almost every gas station had a rack of complimentary map available for the taking.
In my work travels, I keep a few in my car as a fallback if needed. I usually hit the Welcome Center when I enter the state to make sure I have a current copy.

PSA - If you use an US Atlas (50 State Map) Rand McNally has one that shows you every exit of the Interstate system and every restaurant, gas station, attraction at that exit.

The amount of people who get in the car without knowing the way to their destination first frightens me.

Over-reliance on Waze, Google Maps is not good. The amount of people who swerve from the far-left lane over to an exit because they wait for Google to tell them is all the evidence I need that map reading and planning should be prioritized.

I can still remember the day back in the 1960's when I first figured out how to use a slide rule...I was terrified of the thing until I figured it out.
