Game moving too fast for Patrick right now. The potential is there. When he gets the ball he panics and throws up awkward shots - dribbles into a mess. .

I, still, loves the drive to the hoop and the attempt at throw down. I can't wait to see the first time he get that. Also, nice to see the 3 ball go down for him.

He needs to let the game come to him. Look for rebounds and get the ball into the offense. He's just pressing his game too hard. He's playing like a Freshman which is basically what he is. I think he'll be a good one down the road.

Hes a little too eager but that's better than being timid.

He needs to only shoot 3s when open.

I feel like he tried a little too hard to stick it to Foster.
He is typically active and wants the ball and isn't afraid to shoot it, that part I like. In time he'll have a better understanding of what works and what doesn't at the DI level, and I assume those shots will start to fall at a higher pace.

Hopefully his misses aren't something that runs in the family, because Connor reminded us last night why he's better when he feeds others instead of shooting himself! Ha!

Patrick hasn't played much ball for the last year or two, ya know. Recovering from that cancer thing. He's still a baby out there, but he has the attitude and the work ethic to be a force by next season. He should have an outstanding Iowa career. The kid, somewhat like Nunge, has had it tough. He's overcome a lot, and I think Patrick will make the most of his time in a Hawkeye uniform.

Totally agree Aristotle. The kid has not had a lot of court time the last 2 years. He’s going to be a 6-10 small forward. Not sure in my 50 years of watching Iowa bball we’ve ever had that. He’s a little rusty, clearly. And possibly trying to hard, which I’m not going to complain about. Top 50 kid I believe coming out of high school, at least 100. Hes going to be a baller in another year or 2.

Give that young man another year to get stronger and more game experience, look out. He has a great first step and can take it to the rack. He has a better three shot, needs to get his feet set better.

I love his length on the point of the press. He will create a lot of turnovers.

I also agree with the above

Right now PMac plays like a kid who grew up watching the hawks through out most of his bball playing years...and when he gets on the court he is living his dream...causing him to press too much. He will be fine

He also makes some great passes similar to his brother. He brings the ball up and handles it well for a kid 6'9". Needs to let the game come to him more and he'll be a killer.

I am amazed how much he has developed physically. Totally different than last year when I thought - no way.

Pmac is rebounding pretty well and playing pretty good defense and is another ball handler. He should stick to that role until he demonstrates better shot selection/shoots better.

Keegan is ahead of PMAC at this point because Keegan knows his role and is better rebounder/defender. Both Keegan and PMac are nice levers to have on the team to go bigger.
The 3-2 zone looked pretty good with PMac and Keegan at the two wing spots.

It is hard to complain about how Fran has managed the team this year because unlike past years, the guys off the bench tend to bring something to the table either defensively/rebounding/athleticism vs the starters. Also, we are not seeing complete 5 man lineup swaps or lineups that have glaring weaknesses.

If Patrick develops his 3 pt shot and drives much like Connor has developed his low post feeds to Garza.... LOOK OUT. And there is another still in HS.

I have a slightly different perspective. I would say that he struggled early in the game against ISU and got frustrated because things weren't going his way. I think that he is ahead of a lot of freshman at this point in his career. He is long, athletic, and as others have mentioned he has an aggressive attitude that will serve him well.

I also love the drive to the hoop and attempt to throw it down.

I think that he will find his groove sometime soon.....my main concerns for him are his shot form/consistency and that he needs even more strength....he needs a Joe W like off season.

I am a huge supporter of Fran....so it pains me to say, I don't understand the shooting form of his two son's.....I would expect a coaches kid to have good shooting form.

I’m not old enough to have seen Fran play at Penn, but based on his college stats, it looks like he wasn’t much of a shooter himself. Career 51% free throw shooter, career 37% FG%, and only averaged 2.7 FGA his senior year. My guess is that his playing style was similar to Connor’s, and that he is more of an offensive philosophy/ball movement type of guy, versus a shooting coach

For the record, I watched the youngest son’s 7th grade highlight tape a while back (don’t judge, I was itching for anything Hawk hoops) and his shooting form looks really good and smooth compared to Pat and Connor

I agree about Jack. He seems to be the total package.

Hate to say it, but for being coaches kids pat and cmac have very ugly looking shots.

So true, and so odd, especially when mom was also an offensive basketball star. When you think of coaches’ kids, you think of good shooting fundamentals, e.g. Alford’s, Boeheim’s and Hoiberg’s kids. Patrick and Connor have the high basketball IQ that you expect of coaches’ kids, but it is crazy that they have poor shooting fundamentals.

I think with the freshman and sophomore classes the Hawks have the future looks very bright. We will not necessarily have the big horse like we have with Luka now but, if I am coaching against Iowa in the next three years I have to wonder, do I have enough defenders to shut down all that offense. Iowa will be more balanced offensively in the future, which means you have to guard everyone because each spot on the floor can kill you if you lay off them. A nice thing to have for the Hawks.

Patrick has extreme length and can get off the floor quick so he is starting with some really good attributes. Have loved the way he has rebounded and played D- especially good at the point in our match up zone press we put on here and there.

He basically needs to shoot about 1000 3s and jumpers in the off season. If he gets that shot down like a Utoff did, he could be really special.

Uthoff's Jr year, he was the starting 3 (alongside Woody and White). The year before White was the starting 3 (alongside Woody and Basabe).

I'm confused, are you saying those guys didn't have any arc on their shots?

At least not compared to typical great shooters like a Steph Curry or Larry Bird.

Jordan and Kobe weren't great 3pt shooters either so maybe not the best comparison.

Allen was though and his shot was flater than all of them but it still looked good.

They had very flat shots. Ray Allen was known to have the flattest 3 point shot in the NBA. All mentioned shot flatter 3 pointers than Patrick or Connor. Vince Brookins probably had the flattest of them all and he could really shoot.

What? Vinny Brookins did not have a flat shot, not as I remember it anyway. It was high arching and one of the sweetest I've ever seen.
