Patriots release WR Riley McCarron

Amazing for former walk on. Can't say he was spectacular at Iowa but New England knows how to pass the ball.

Huh...so Iowa’s unknown wide receiver is on an NFL roster, and ISUs heralded all BIG12 reciever is what, on a practice squad? Not really sure.

If a player is holding an offer from both ISU and Iowa, and wanted to get to the next level and make some coin, the choice is a no brainer on what school will develop you for it.

Until he's "discovered" by the other NFL teams, I can see where he'll be a solid asset to N.E.'s WR corps.

Riley McCarron failed to corral his lone target in the Patriots' Week 1 win over the Texans.

More concerningly, McCarron muffed a punt at this own 16-yard line. That's the sort of gaffe that could get McCarron released on Monday.

Bummer, and especially frustrating on a personal level as I played the NE D/ST this week in my fantasy league. :(

McCarron made his own bed, failing to catch his lone target and muffing a punt at the Patriots' 16-yard line in the team's Week 1 win over the Texans.

It's too bad because you know he worked his ass off to get on that Squad. But plenty of guys to take a spot when you don't execute.

I stabbed my lip with a fork twice. And I'm still fat. Shit happens.

Damn, I bet nobody feels worse than him. You have to feel bad for the guy

Its a brutal business. Cut, signed to PS. added to roster, played 1st NFL game, released … all within the span of about 10 days. One big mistake may have sealed his fate. Its like having a life long dream to be a fireman, preparing and training or years, finally getting on the waiting list, promoted to active duty, going through accelerated orientation, and then botching the ladder placement during an emergency rescue the 1st day on the job. Hope McCarron gets a 2nd chance.

I wouldn’t worry too much about him being cut - lots of injuries happen in the nfl and you need to open slots for extra players at a certain position sometimes. Any backup type player can be subject to cuts depending on the numbers they need. These players generally go back to the practice squad if unclaimed.

It’s a tough blow, for sure. Was worried when I saw the Patriots’ box score from the game.

Keep fighting, Riley!

I continue to be astonished at his speed and NFL run.

Seemed like kind of a possession receiver at Iowa. Then one game he houses it from like 60 yards. His wheels kinda surprised me but still didn't think he was a 4.36 guy.

But alas ... the muff was bad. Off-the face-mask bad. Ugh.

Yeah but do you get fired from the department and have to find work in a different field? Not even close to comparison.
