Bigger, stronger, faster is what one of the new recruits told me after touring the facilities. He said the twins are men among boys. 315 ish. They have remained quiet along with other key linemen recruits. I think KF likes it that way. But the word is OMG!!

What I've heard is that the Paulson boys are freakish physically ... however, they still have a ways to go developmental-wise (technique-wise, footwork, knowledge, you name it). The good news is that they're definitely willing to work. However, past that ... I've frankly heard more buzz about Waechter at OT ... because ultimately, within a zone-blocking scheme, there's a lot more about the position than just being huge. To that end, Waechter has benefited from being a coaches kid and, consequently, he likely has an above average football IQ.

There are worse things then big physical guards if they both wind up inside. Given another year you'd have to think they'd have the football basics down. 4 quarters of 325 lbs. guards beating you up. With James at center and Boone already starting that would give us a pretty stout middle with good depth. If Brett can handle one tackle and Ike at the other it looks to be pretty solid going forward.

Edit: I forgot that Welsh is only a junior. Maybe we can find a spot for him LOL.

There is some great content on you tube featuring these guys. Very very mature young men. Check out their press conference when they committed to Iowa. These two could be big time players. I personally see them being 3 year starters. Sorry I don't have the link

After being around them all this past year, I can say they definitely are 300+. Got on an elevator with them at one point and they made Drew Cook and Anthony Nelson look small.

Some of the funniest characters you'll be around too.

Check that i forgot we have 4 of 5 starters back on the OL in '17. Only guy we lose is Crosten this year.

2017 starting OL?
T- Boettger
G- Myers
C- Welsh
G- Daniels
T- Waechter ?

2018
T-Paulson/Ferguson
G- Paulson/Daniels
C- Daniels/Newborg
G- Legrand/Reynolds/Paulson
T- Waechter/Paulson
Put these 10 in a blender and add a dash of Jackson and Render and that's likely the 2 deep's. The point being the Paulson bro's are versatile and will be in the lineup.

This can't be true about Waechter. There is a poster on here that has on multiple occasions told us that Waechter is lazy, has a poor attitude, is uncoachable, takes plays off, won't ever see the field, etc. And he has good sources to back this up;)

Both are pretty good wrestlers also. Levi won the 1A HWT title as a senior.

...also, 3 hours in the weight room every day. That is either an exaggeration or a statement of determination to succeed. Based on the character references, I take it as the latter (but I'm not sure that is a good idea - 3 hours per day).

I met the Paulsen's once and was impressed with their personality, great kids.

In regards to unit chemistry, team mentality and overall Hawkeye readiness, I believe Iowa struck gold with the Paulsen Bros.

Regardless of how they turn out from a talent standpoint, the unique "brothership" that these two will bring to the team is going to pay big dividends over the coming years.

Brothership mentality is a very contagious thing.

I can see them being guards, or one moving to the center position, similar to (maybe not as successful as, we'll have to see!) the Pouncey brothers who played at Florida and then the NFL.

A 6'6 center is difficult for many reasons

I suppose we are bouncing off topic a bit, but can anyone think of any other brother combos who played together as Hawks?

I understand I'm probably missing a few, but the only ones who immediately come to mind is he Haight Brothers and Harmon Brothers back in the 80s (rather successful years I might add, which circles back to my original thought. : ) )

Gotta love the (potential) depth at the position over the next couple years. Of course, you never know how many guys will develop, but even just having 4/5 of the line returning next year is huge. Should be a big help for whoever starts at QB in 2017.

I'm sure there are quite a few examples. Although not the same age, LeShun and James Daniels will both be playing this year, and Miles and Kyle Taylor will likely end up playing together in the next couple of years.

I really like the OL depth and recent recruiting there. I think we could have some great OL play the next few years.

During discussion at 3:18:

Levi - "Coming in as freshmen, we're gonna get the tar beat out of us."

Big brother (by 12 minutes) Landan instantly smirks as if to say " No we're not."
Ha. That's a Brian Ferentz quote basically. Paraphrasing here, but along the lines of, "A lot of schools might promise playing time or this or that to a true freshman offensive lineman. At Iowa, all I can promise you is you're going to get your ass kicked everyday in practice. The good news is, if you can survive that, you've got a chance."

I'm a big fan of the Paulsen twins. About 6-5, 315 lbs and they're doing a full splits at the performance the football team did with the Iowa dance team at Carver this winter. Great family, great personalities, and a bright future outside of football.

Good news is the current depth gives them time to develop and fine tune their craft. Lots of starters coming back in 2017, but in 2018 there's going to be a lot of playing time available at both guard and tackle. They'll be right in the mix.

Great to hear. When talking about recruiting these 2 are perfect examples of 3 star kids who maybe could have gotten rankings, more stars etc but committed to Iowa early and from small town Iowa. But remember reading how we got a steal and both of these guys will be big time players for Iowa when it is all said and done. Just seems like the fit the perfect mold of past successful OL for Iowa.

The '17 line might be one of Iowa's all time best.

And of course, multiple generations of the Hilgenbergs...
