Dude got a whole bunch of offers in the last few days, including Iowa. Supposedly the best shooter in the state, I feel like I should know more about him. Sounds like a JW clone as a 6’6 SF.

Anyone got anything beyond that?

Not comparable to Joe. Not as versatile. Really just projected as a shooter right now, although a great one and tall one. Waukee had four good seniors last year so he only got around 100 shots on the season. He and devries will be studs the next two years.

A couple tweets I’ve seen said he really impressed people in the spring and recently with his relentless defense and rebounding...I like the sound of that!

He already has the make-up of a Big Ten SG/SF. One of the smoothest strokes you will see with endless range. Had a very successful weekend at the top 40 camp this weekend to be paired with a great spring with Kingdom Hoops 16u.
The offers are going to continue to rack up.

Eh I have disagree with you guys on this. I saw him as a low mid major player. He’s 6’6 with a smooth jumper and long arms. However he is not tough, nor posses even close to the athletic ability needed to play in the big ten. I have seen him play 6 times now and every time I feel the same way about him. It’s frustrating being a hawk fan when Iowa continually recruits kids like this. It’s great for a 18-20 win season every 2-4 years but we are just never going to be able to approve upon that with recruits like this. Iowa state is much better at recruiting in basketball. Although when it comes to football Iowa blows them out of the water

Serious question....you may be right, but I am wondering what your experience is in evaluating a recruit like this? I watch the video, and again you may be right, but I have no idea or experience in projecting a kid like that 2-3 years down the road.

I agree with your overall assessment. Granted, this kid has two more years of HS ball ahead of him, but right now, he's not what I would call B10 ready, not even close. Nice stroke and length and seems to pride himself on the defensive end of the court, but he's very slightly built, doesn't elevate particularly well for his size and doesn't appear to have the ball handling ability a kid his size will need at the P5 level. If he grows another 4-6 inches, adds to his ball-handling skill set, it's a different assessment, but right now he would probably be the lowest man on the Hawkeye bench by a lot. I've seen a dozen similar kids in Iowa in his class and I wouldn't want Iowa offering any of them.

Fair question. But I would say having been around the sport for a long time and following recruiting closely. To me he projects as a career bench player and a guy to come in and hit open shots when called upon. I get that he has 2 more years of developing but I don’t see him gaining 8 inches on his vert (because he can not elevate very well at all) and gaining 20-30 LBs of muscle. He would need to put on that extra weight and strength because he is not athletic enough to get away with being slight of frame. I definitely agree that there are a ton of kids exactly like this out there and I don’t understand the logic of throwing a scholarship at him when you can probably get him at the end of the recruitment process If you don’t land ur other targets. A kid I would much rather seem get offered by Iowa would be the youngest duax kid. He’s practically the same height, quicker, can jump higher, stronger, faster, a better ball handler, and better finishing at the rim. Makes 0 sense to me at all

You lost me at the 18-20 win season every 2-4 years.

Definitely not associated with the family or anything, just a fan. I wanted to make some good compliments that granted him 4 offers in the span of 2 days. He will need to continue to develop and work on quickness. He could also be more versatile on offense. He still has two full seasons to get this into gear. But his shooting, size, and awareness is always going to be there. Hence why he was offered this early.

Welcome to HR Mr. Sandfort

Facts back me up. Not some dumb ass belief that YOU THINK u know everything lol. It’s like you haven’t watched Iowa basketball the past 10 years. That’s an average of 18 wins a season

This is how. I guess I could have worded it better. It’s called an exaggeration to get a point across

That’s fine but there’s a pretty big difference in ranges. I would sign up for 20-25 win seasons 7 out of every 10 years. That’s consistently making the tournament. I know we can’t do this but I’m tossing out Fran’s first two years since he inherited a freaking mess from (name redacted). Since then, we are 5/7 in that 20+ win category with 4 tourney appearances. It would be great if we could advance past that first weekend, though, but that’s been a problem at Iowa long before Fran took over the program.

You call it exageration. I just call it making shit up.

Why not just say you don't like how the coach recruits? You just lose credibility when you make shit up just to try to make a point. We can agree to disagree about opinions.

The value of players who can hit a three with consistency goes up with the 3pt line moving back. If he’s committed to playing defense and crashing the boards, I’d shoot him an offer. Already 6’7, two more years to develop, this seems like one of those players who goes to one of the Dakota schools and ends up leading them to the NCAA tournament with a great inside/outside game.

Worst case scenario he’s an Ethan Wragge for Creighton a few years ago. 3pt specialist who doesn’t do anything else. With a quick release and a high release point, don’t see him going the way of an Oglesby or anything like that. I’d like Iowa to land him

I just lost a few IQ points. Apparently people don’t know what an exaggeration is anymore. Ur just a butt hurt Iowa fan who got his feelings hurt. Sorry if ur close to the kid or something. My criticisms are fair. And even if you disagree with them state them instead of being an idiot. Thanks

Hell no, I just despise idiots.

Are you guys interested in Sandfort in Ames? Priceless thread.
I can’t tell what u are getting at? Obviously this is an Iowa recruiting basketball forum. It is to discuss players being recruited, or on the team. I have no clue what this means at all

I'm sure he's being/been evaluated. No clue of interest level. Iowa's offer is the first I've heard of him.

Waukee has consistently produced Division I players in all sports. They have a great athletics program. If you don’t know who is coming through the pipeline in the top metro schools you probably just don’t care that much.

He is very comparable to Nicholas Baer. He's a very good 3 and D guy with a long wingspan to disrupt passing lanes.

He might be a more polished shooter than Baer was at this level.

Ignore the clown troll saying he's not tough enough. Nobody would mistake Baer or even Joe Wieskamp as being tough. They are just great fundamental players with excellent shooting. I believe Sandfort fits that mold. And we all saw what good fundamentals did to ISU at Carver this year.
