There is a reason he has been banned from this site at least 3 times, and it's not because of his astute sports knowledge and calm demeanor.
two guard (guess he can shoot lights out)....but could give a spot minute here or there..
- Relax man I have been a fan since the early 90's and we have been the underdog in almost every game we have played against a ranked team Not saying JBO cant take us to the next level Just think DJ has one on one skills and I think you need some of those guys to get to the next level
been a fan since the late 50's and DJ is only a JR and as yet to play at the D1 Level and I have seen others but DJ is not this savior, he would be a good addition that is for sure, but it takes more than a skill it takes a PG with a HIGH BB IQ. JBo has that plus Fran want this to be a team effort not a 1 player effort, we saw that but now he has a whole team of play makers.
I respect your knowledge and long time fan experience. My perspective however is that this young man has played enough against high level competition that he has shown he is PG with a HIGH BB IQ, that also happens to be very skilled and athletic......sitting in Iowa's backyard. When these top level coaches come to Iowa from other states and are recruiting this young man I think they do so because their level of expertise indicates that he is everything you said a PG should be.
You mention it takes a PG with not just skills but a HIGH BB IQ. I would suggest the IQ starts with skill. So I'm going to direct my comments from I know & have come to see from DJ Carton.
First and foremost he has reached this high level because he worked at his development as a BB player. The time spent in the gym has been over the top. To the point even his HS coach has stated he has to tell him to go home. His commitment to become what he has become is exactly what Fran looks for. Remember when White got locked out from leaving CHA..thats DJ Carton. Per his HS coach Carton is a dream to coach.
2nd you mentioned Fran wants a team effort not a 1 player effort. I can tell you Carton fits. No one is suggesting Carton is a savior. DJ isn't saying such. He loves playing with his teammates as part of a team. IMO he fits right in with the type of guys we have now....what I call Fran Fit Players. The more he is able to spend time with our guys the better.
IF...Carton ends up going somewhere other than Iowa so be it. But I know this much..if he ends up being a Hawkeye..we are getting one heck of a player, very high BB IQ...a great teammate who fits. Better make sure he has access to CHA past scheduled practices.
I agree he is only a high school junior. I'm sure he will see plenty of attention & maybe even triple teaming come this next season. Its going to be somewhat of a challenge for him. He will be even better for it.

Who is saying Carton will be better than JBo? There is nothing racial at all...you are the one that put that tone in your own head. Your impressions are back ass wards.
There is no racial overtone what-so-ever.....I think he "could" be better than JB because he is taller, longer, and appears to be quicker. That said, JB has been outstanding. Just think if we could get the next PG in line who "could" be even better.
Knowing Carton I believe he will be excited to learn from a senior such as JBo. He played on a senior dominated team last year and credits those teammates for helping him ... especially with his confidence as an underclassmen.
Why nitewing needs to pit one teammate vs another is really stupid.

Are you saying Dev is the best player this past 10 years? I am not disagreeing but I am not agreeing either as the #2 all-time Hawkeye scorer may have something to say about that?

So by your thinking, we have a chance at a highly regarded point guard that would get to play a year under JBo and "could" end up better than JBo but you would want us to pass and be stuck needing to start an unknown at point guard the following year setting us up for a rebuilding year? I don't care if we play 5 white guys if they can all play as well as JBo and Baer do but I want the best players Iowa can continue to get better each year and attract the best players who fit Fran's system.
and you disregard the longer & quicker part...I can say Carton has surprising hops for a kid approaching 6'2".

and #70 4* Carton 6'1
looks like all the 4* PG's that Fran has offered are close in rankings and height, but lets keep freaking out about not getting a PG in the 2019 class. as for the 2020 class Fran has already offered these
# 4 5* Suggs 6'3 out of Minneapolis Minn.
#34 4* Terry 5'11 out of Flint Michigan
