Why doesn't she trust the free market to handle it?
No one is objecting to being prepared. But is an emergency declaration necessary before AK can get prepared?
If AK can't prepare for fully predictable circumstances that aren't in and of themselves harmful, then something is wrong with AK. We're talking tourists, not tornadoes; parking, not pandemic.
Declaring an emergency seems like an hysterical overreaction.
It's plausible, of course that the Rs in AK have crippled the state government so much that Huckabee had no less-hysterical tools in her tool box. I don't know enough about AK to judge that.
Then I have the same questions for them.
Why aren't they already prepared?

One day before the eclipse sounds like last minute to me.
She’s an idiot, period. Ten years from now when she’s hopefully in prison, and if someone unfortunately mentions her, we will point that out. We will never not point it out because she is flat out awful.

Essex County, New York, declared a state of emergency one day before Arkansas did. How far in advance does a state of emergency need to be declared in order to be in effect on the days it needs to be in effect?

The mistake you’re making here is failing to distinguish between emergency preparedness and declaring a state of emergency. The fact that the official declaration was issued yesterday doesn’t mean there were no preparations made before yesterday.
