Peter Jok All Big

RedHawk - I don't think Pete is a great defender but is more than passable. I like Mike at the point, I just don't think they work the ball enough to Pete to take full advantage of what Pete gives us (more scoring) . I do think steals are very important, his lead to transition points that can be back breakers . Pete is growing into a difference maker.
Pete is a difference maker on the offensive end as a shooter already. If the Hawks can finish the season in first, he has a shot at first team B1G, but reputations will be hard to displace. In this thread, I mostly disagree with comments that Mike and Sapp are somehow holding Pete back. I think, if anything, they are making him better, as are Jarrod and Woody. Fran is more than willing to go with a hot hand, and Pete has been getting more shots recently. If Pete gets open, the four seniors are very good at getting him the ball.

You must be watching different games, if you have seen Pete not getting the ball regularly when he is open. In the past month, Pete has been Priority 1b, and that is a big reason that Mike and Sapp don't always take shots when they have them. I am not sure that we want Pete getting the ball to create regularly, but Fran has had him post up a little more recently. I think this is probably with a goal of free throws and fouls on one of the other team's better defender, more than anything.

The object is to get the best shooter/scorer the ball. I know as the shot clock is close or at the end of the game I want the ball in his hands to create. I agree we aren't watching the same game.

Just expressing a thought, the idea is to get good shots. We run a complicated motion offense which when it is working is a fantastic thing to watch. It isn't designed to get one guy open, or another, but to break down a defense with side to side movement until somebody gets a good look.

And yes, within that we run sets that include screens, backcuts, a bunch of stuff. What Mike and Anthony do well is keep the spacing good, keep the ball moving, in other words making that difficult but advantageous motion offense running like a well oiled machine.

They are a bigger reason we are at the top of the Big Ten than many give them credit for.

I know, it's pretty when the ball goes in the hole and the guy that shot it is the big hero. But a Woody pick? A Gesell pass? Clemmons moving the ball on in favor of a better shot later? It's all part of why we are winning games.

Next year the offense will get less complicated because it has to. That's when our young guys will look better, and they in turn will be taught more and more the longer they are at Iowa. But that is really for another thread.
