As his career winds down, I am really starting to appreciate Jok.

First and foremost, the group of (precocious) freshman appear to love him. This means a lot.

Second, he is playing fewer minutes and taking less and less shots as the season develops, and you barely notice because there is no pouting or shot-hunting or any other such chemistry-killing behavior.

Third, he is playing as hard as I've ever seen on the defensive end.

Fourth he is on the boards, and lately has been a regular on the floor for loose balls.

And last, he just generally makes the right play. Only very occasionally does he over-dribble or make a lazy pass.

That's all. Glad he's a Hawk.

I don't get the hate some people had on him in the middle of the season he was injured and he's always grabbed and guarded with their best player. If you watch him they foul him all the time off the ball.

Jok has been great this year and help let the freshman develop by not having pressure on them.

Great hawk who will be missed!

Iowa's best shooter in the last 20 years that I can remember. Am I missing somebody?
Best since McCausland. More game than McCausland, of course. But Kent was about as pure as it gets.

I'm good friends with AJ Guyton and he says Kent was the purest shooter he played against in college. Said his makes had a different sound than he had ever heard before, and that they were damn near all exactly the same.

thanks for the thread...I was actually out Friday night...the stigma & label people place on players is remarkable...was yapping Iowa BB...I mentioned the 22 - 23 (how epic that was..especially considering the physical excertion, overtime & all)...out comes 'well he is lazy on defense'.

I try to promise my wife I should just let it go...but you know sometimes they should let it go..so I didn't...I'll leave it at that.

Good post Rudolph.
Please continue to post your experiences & knowledge.

People often overlook McCausland when they make up those lists of great Iowa shooters.

Jok has made an effort since his return from the back,(I don't think he's totally back yet), to play within himself and help this young team move forward. Unfortunately the holes in his game pointed out by NBA people are still apparent. Hopefully he can help lead the Hawks on a nice late season run. Then let the chips fall where they may on his future, be it in the league, or in Europe.

McCausland was a great shooter, but to me, Jok has the prettiest shot I have ever seen. It does appear he enjoys playing with this team, and they love playing with him. He is getting fouled every trip down the floor and the refs call about 10% of them. It has to be frustrating for him.

I do wonder if he is a good enough ball handler for the NBA, but he has been a joy to watch four years as a Hawk. Best wishes to him wherever he goes.

I'm rooting for him to finish in the 1500 point club. Couple wins in the BTT and a couple NIT ( NCAA?) and he should get there.

Yeah...a couple of those Jok assists were a thing of beauty. That really takes the sails out of the other team when you get such easy buckets.

I really think we need to hit the last couple games and BTT setting up more outside shots for JB, PJ and BE. Ellingson is 50% from 3; move the ball inside/outside and cross court to get any of them open for a 3.

Defense has REALLY stood out the last game or so, and Jok has been a big part of that now that his back problems are gone. He's definitely been an enormous positive influence on the younger guys. Fantastic team leader.

I'm having a hard time writing this. It feels a little like a goodbye letter. :(

Hawkeyes for life Peter Jok! Thanks for being a Hawkeye. Thanks for manning up off the court, lesser people would have taken off for a new town...you took responsibility and as far as I'm concerned have been a great example of how to come back from mistakes.

On the court, there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said.

Here is hoping for a great future in whatever comes your way. Man, you put the time in, were a great leader in your dietary decisions, efforts in weight training (two things I can not pretend to have accomplished).

The true and only real sadness I have, is having seen what damage has been done to your body. My gosh basketball can be a brutal sport sometimes. Especially nowadays. I wish I could have seen you play back when things weren't allowed to get so physical.

I think if I could, I think I'd like to put you on Miller's Six Pack and see what would happen. :) Or right there with Lester and the guys in 1980. But then, the things you've helped the team accomplish these last four years? I guess I just couldn't give that up.

Thanks Pete!

Great thread. I love Pete. He has been so fun to watch. I will miss the crap out of this guy.

Agree with the others about his passing. It has been very good to great this year. Here is to hoping this team can put together a great finish to this year and go on a little run. Send Pete out on top.

Couldn't agree more. The perfect Hawkeye story. Iowa HS star overcomes devastating injury to lead the B1G in scoring as a first team ABT player. P Jok is simply one hell of Hawk!

Kent McC was obviously not at Peter's level as a player he was an even more accurate shooter. The need to never leave Kent open benefited everyone else more than his PPG production would indicate.

Great to see him have a nice career. I wish he would get a shot at the tournament. I remember when people were calling him the #1 8th grader in the country and a future lottery pick.

Unfortunately he had the knee issues. He looked shakey his freshman year and has progressed. It is too bad that he hasn't been 100% for some of the season.

I don't think it is a slight to call a player a European pro. It's still an awesome life. I don't see Pete as a NBA player. He just gets knocked around too much be physical players. The players in the league are too talented and it will make Pete too much of a liability.

I'd agree with this. His game had limitations, but he was as pure a shooter as they come. I really didn't want to like him when he started at Iowa...but he won me over. He maxed his talent and his release was ridiculously quick and twice as consistent.
