Peter Jok statement on going through NBA Evaluation Process

“I would like to take advantage of the opportunity that is now presented to underclassmen in going through the process of obtaining input from NBA personnel so that I can make an informed decision about my future. For me, this whole process is for experience to see how it all works and then return to work on my game.

“It’s comforting having the support of coach McCaffery and staff. Coach will continue to be a valuable resource for me during this process. If it’s not the right time for me to make the move to the NBA, I’m excited about returning and leading our team next season.”

i could be wrong - but i thought aaron white did the same thing. either way, good for peter.

This statement gives me the feeling that he prolly is returning 75/25 maybe even higher. Good opportunity to explore the process, kinda like orientation.

White did end up playing basketball overseas. I do think White was a better basketball player than what Jok currently is. The extra yr. of college ball should help Peter especially as he will have a big leadership role to play for the Hawks. At least I hope he comes back. He's one player Iowa can't afford to loose.

Correct. As has been stated many times here recently, Pete would be foolish not to go through this process with the way the new rules are. Anyone who has NBA aspirations should do it for the experience and feedback.

Has anyone seen any Draft projections in which Jok would even be drafted? I personally think this is much ado about nothing. I think those who are saying he is just taking advantage of the opportunity presented to him are right on the money. If he does happen to leave (which I highly doubt because I don't see anyone who is going to tell him he's lock to be a 1st Rd pick), then best wishes to Jok and thank you for 3 years of being a Hawkeye.

However, I fully expect him back next season.

It will be nice that Peter will be critiqued by NBA people that can tell him what aspects of his game really need work, I'm sure Fran has been in his ear but sometimes if you hear a different voice telling what you really need to work on it can be more of a kick start than your coach that you work with day in and day can provide. Like most I don't think PJ is NBA ready but if it works out for him I wish him nothing but the best, He has really improved since he first arrived on campus and you can see the results of a lot of hard work.

He can barely dribble a basketball? are you kidding me? he by far has the most potential of anyone on this team for the last while Peter may need some cleaning up but he's got a great game is very athletic and he's got a great shot he is totally going to the NBA not this year definitely next year

Best of luck to Peter in exploring options open to him along his road to the ultimate goal of a pro career. I don't think he is in any way yet ready, but this should help him find out more exactly where he stands. I think he will be back, or be playing in Europe.

From what I've read, only 1st Rd draft picks are guaranteed money. Jok will not be selected in the 1st Rd if he leaves early.

So, in short, Jok will be in an Iowa uniform next year.

Nothing wrong with what he's doing. I think he'll be back, hopefully. Kid is fun to watch and really looking forward to see what he can do at Iowa with another year under his belt. With how much improvement hes made each year, Iowa could have a star next year in Jok.

Good luck to Peter but he can barely dribble a basketball, needs to gain a lot of strength, and is average on defense....he will be back or in Europe..!!
This. I don't think Iowa fans have a single thing to be worried about, unless you just like worrying...............

Smart for Jok to do this however. No-brainer.

As noted, right thing to do for PJ. He is just test driving the car that he will buy a year from now. The evaluation from others outside of the Iowa coaching staff will be good as there are times it appears that PJ and Fran don't seem to see eye to eye based upon body language at timeouts, etc. Peter does play a little lazy at times for lack of a better word

Given what Kentucky is doing, why wouldn't Dom do this too? I honestly think this outside evaluation might spark his game too. college coaches know their players are not ready so use the free evaluation service the NCAA has given you

Kentucky is having all their draft eligible players go through the orientation, FWIW

every player in the country from this past season is draft eligible. Players currently in high school are not eligible to be drafted. Every college player is eligible.

I will take the under on this proposition

This is 100% correct. Look, I love Pete, and am glad we have him. I also am confident that he will be back. This NBA evaluation will reveal what Denny posted: Pete is a shooter, but needs much improvement in ball handling, defense, and overall feel for the game. He has great upside, and may be an NBA player, but he is not ready at this time.

The wording of Marty Tirrell's tweet was incredibly misleading ("opt out"). Sounded like his interpretation of the rule was totally misunderstood. Plus, his basis for saying Pete's return was 'very unlikely' was either just his personal assumption or it was gathered by a source who thinks he knows it all. Irresponsible journalism.

He knew exactly what he was doing. He's an a-hole troll.

Marty is throwing all his eggs in one basket and doubling down on his stance on Jok. If Jok comes back, Marty will lose his remaining 100(or less) Hawkeye fans.

There's literally no reason for Jok, or any college player of similar caliber, not to see what NBA scouts think of his game. Why on Earth WOULDN'T he test the waters?

I am pretty sure I think I know what you are saying. Or, maybe I don't. Just saying.:D
