I've heard the hype surrounding Chip Kelly winning the award. But he hasn't been a coordinator since 2007. Plus with all that talent they have, it shouldn't be too hard to do well.
Meanwhile Phil Parker has single handily gotten Iowa to ten wins. He's had to win with an offense that is lucky to score double digits. Iowa had the number five rated defense, but honestly they were better than Michigan, Ohio State, Washington or Georgia. I mean if you put the QB Iowa had in any of those teams offense and the offensive coordinator in place. You can't tell me those defenses hold up.
So if Phil works his magic again, he should get the award. I just hope Kirk hired a coordinator on the other side that is at least competent. Otherwise I can see Phil looking for other opportunities. He's an Ohio guy and a Michigan State graduate. I don't know much about Johnathan Smith's defensive coordinator, I know Ohio State has a good one. But what if the Cincy job came open?
