I hear all this talk about Brian, being the unofficial head coach in waiting. I actually am really behind the idea of continuity, most businesses don't gut their entire staff every 5 years, they do have succession plans,

The question I have is why are we in such a rush to crown Brian? Phil Parker has done a great job with the defense and if Kirk wanted to retire sooner than later, Phil would potentially have some tread left on the tires, Seth Wallace could slide in as defensive coordinator and the rest of the staff stays mostly stable - a good thing for the most part. Brian could then take over for Phil if he has been as great as everybody seems to think he will be.

I like PP myself, but the dude is 54 years old and has been coaching forever. If he were Power-5 head coaching material, I think he would have been picked up by now, likely in the midst of some of Iowa's good years under KF. Back in '02-'04, he had to know he was not moving up in Iowa's defensive coaching staff anytime soon, so if he had those kinds of aspirations he probably would have been gone around that time.

If Phil Parker is the next head coach at Iowa I'm out. The guy is a great position coach but that is it.

Has he really done that great of a job as defensive coordinator? We have gotten thrashed like 4 bowl games in a row. I am not impressed with our D this season. Very few 3 and outs, poor technique and sloppy arm tacking all over the place. We are ranked very poorly in many defensive metrics. Just lucky we play a lot of crappy teams.

It's not good and the scoring defense which is one of the few decent metrics we rank high in is smoke and mirrors. It's the type of D that would get drilled against another good bowl opponent.
